Way too young to get married. This will be a train wreck.

Honestly, I appreciate everything AJ did for us but I'm tired of hearing about them & this wedding.

I just turned 31. The person I was at 21-22 and the person I am now are completely different.

That goes for almost everyone.

I got married last year and wish I had got married in my earlier 20s rather than my late 20s. Everyone is different I guess.

Why? You're the first person I have ever heard say that in my entire life. Even all my married friends wish they would have waited a while longer.

I've been completely secure my entire adult life. Car and house paid for from the word go. Money already saved up. Would have preferred getting started with a family earlier. Everyone is different though. I had a good situation and plenty of safety nets. I was already on a level where I could have been married and handled the difficulties of it at that age. Could my wife have? I don't know, but like I said everyone is different.

I got married younger-ish (23), but I'd say was OK with it. Could I have waited? Sure. Would it have made a difference in the long run? Probably not. But I'd agree with you ILB, people should wait. Divorce rate is entirely too high.

Then explain why the divorce rate was much, much lower when the average marriage was between 2 people under the age of 18.

Entirely different circumstances. In the earlier times, women stayed at home, thus their was less chance for promiscuity for both sexes.
Plus, divorce is much more accepted now.
Should I rephrase and say the misery rate of being married is entirely too high.?

I would say it was also due to abstinence. Most did not have sex before marriage, and it was much easier to wait till marriage because you were getting married 10 years earlier than you do today. If you only have sex with one person, you dont know what your are missing, so you are not as tempted to go somewhere else for what you think you need. Abstinence, everyone insists, is impossible with human hormones. I counter with abstinence is nigh impossible if you are waiting till marriage, and getting married in your mid to late 20s.

Honestly though, we really are not as mature at 25 as we used to be at 17. Sad isnt it?

FTR, I realize this convo doesnt belong here.
