Spinoff...campus comparisons: Student Unions

After viewing the renderings of the Florida Student Union expansion (very nice!) in this thread... UF has the coolest campus by far.....and here's why (Pic Heavy)
...I decided to make a classic offseason spinoff thread to allow bored SEC fans waiting for football season to brag about some part of their campus. In this case, the heart of each campus, the Student Union.
This is LSU's Student Union (305,000 sq. ft)...
GraceHebert Architects
...the new parking garage with nearly 750 parking spaces is conveniently located across the street. I would have killed for this in my day...
...the new 50,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble bookstore is part of the parking garage...
Park @ LSU Union Square
...in order to see it properly, it's necessary to use renderings, since the building itself is surrounded by living oaks, each of which is endowed...
...of course the Parade Grounds are next to the Union...
...and near the Law School building...
...on the other side of the Union is the Landolt Astronomical Observatory. This is the smallest of the several observatories LSU operates, another is at the Pennington Research campus east of the main campus, and a couple more are located southwest of Baton Rouge, out away from the city lights...
...So what's your school's Union like?

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA
The renovation re-established and reinforced the Union as the physical, cultural, and social heart of LSU's campus.
The LSU Student Union serves as an active hub of campus life with many amenities and services. Originally built in the 1960's, much of the facility is outdated and well overdue for a significant overhaul. The renovation breathed new life into the tired, dated building.
The improvements to the Student Union include enhanced retail amenities, new dining facilities, ballroom/meeting room improvements, and upgrades to the Union Theater. These improvements will provide for unification of student organizations as well as strengthening and enhancing the LSU Campus Master Plan.
GHA worked in association with WTW Architects to design the Union & HMS Architects who designed the Theater.
Project Size 305,000 sq. ft.
Completed February 2011

Facility Design Award of Excellence Association of College Unions International 2013
Design Excellence Gold Award American Society of Interior Designers 2011

The Landolt Astronomical Observatory is located on the LSU campus on the roof of Nicholson Hall on Tower Dr. immediately west of the LSU Student Union (across Tower Dr.). Convenient parking is located in the lot immediately south of Nicholson Hall (this lot is between Nicholson Hall and Howe-Russell Geoscience Complex). Parking in the lot is free and open after business hours and on weekends. Entry to the building should be by the door in the middle of the south side of Nicholson Hall. People will then be directed to climb the stairs up to the roof.
...So what's your school's Union like?

Apparently some random website rated student unions recently and two SEC schools made the list. That's all I've got.

Ours is called the Ferguson Center, "The Ferg" for short. It's getting a facelift this summer, and will look very nice.
Fresh foods, the main cafeteria in the Ferg
The Crimson Promenade, which is right in front of the Ferg.
These gates are a replica of the original gates at the University of Alabama, and are supposed to represent a gateway between the traditional and modern parts of campus. All of the new dorms, cafeterias, gyms and the Ferg are on the other side of the gate.

UK's student center will get a renovation and expansion. It will open in January of 2018.

UW Madison has the best student union in the country and it isn't even close.
On the water. Beer. Grill. Music. Don't even have to be a student. What other student union has that? None.

I'm currently a student at LSU and have been tailgating near the union since I can remember.
My cousin and I joked for 3 years that the union would be ready just in time for our freshman year. Sure enough, it literally took that contractor years to finish it. We were convinced they enjoyed the tailgating spot.
Regardless, it was a horrible move by LSU. We spend upwards of 60+ million on gutting it, basically polishing a turd for an inflated price.I remember seeing Auburn's was fantastic, and they paid 1/3 less than us for a brand new union.
And what the hell Alabama, I have been to that union a couple of times pre-renovation, and that was not even necessary. it does look great though.

Huh? There are student unions that check your student ID at the door?

LSU's union is just a building. And it isn't even a cool building. It is ok, I guess. At least it has a Chick-fil-A.

The point is that people who aren't students actually want to come and hang out at UW Madison's student union.
That doesn't happen at LSU. And I'll go ahead and guess it doesn't happen at Arkansas.

The side of the Ferg that faces Houser Hall is ugly, and the mismatch in style between 70's architecture and columns is just weird.

You must be joking. Top 3 ugliest building on campus, not nearly enough room to sit to eat, not enough restaurants. Just wretched in general.
It is supposed to get renovated over the next couple of years and basically double in size, so there is hope. I would imagine they will try to move towards the architecture theme of our other recent projects.

That's not entirely true. The Union gets visited a lot by fans and alumni, especially when joggers and bikers take the lake route.
