excerpt:
quote:

So computers have no direct role in this, and per College Football Playoff’s policies, the committee is asked even to discount “polls wherein initial rankings are established before competition has occurred.”

And there will be no metrics such as college basketball’s Ratings Percentage Index, better known as RPI, that many believe has too much sway in the work of those committees.

“Been there, done that; if we wanted a computer formula, we would have stayed with the computer formula,” said Hancock, who said an RPI model he studied was “irrelevant. “It just didn’t line up with what you intuitively knew the best teams were because there’s not enough games.”

Besides, in a circular correction from the move to the BCS, the idea was that that these are decisions better made exclusively by human beings.
Ranking football teams, the College Football Playoff’s own protocols denote, is “an art, not a science.”
So if there’s any secret sauce this time around, Hancock said, it’s “common sense.”

This is going to be a complete disaster and will probably make me hate college football.

Probably. That doesn't bother me as much as this type of scenario:

Undefeated ACC champ
Undefeated B1G champ
Undefeated PAC champ
12-1 SEC Champ
Undefeated mid-major (say the MWC champ)

Do they pick the four undefeateds because that's "common sense?"

Also, where does ND fit?

When the Czar's say "common sense", they mean manipulating it to come up with the most politically-correct play-off that will cater to all corners of "the nation"......as opposed to objectively picking the 4 best teams whoever that actually may be....

That's why ND jumped on board with the ACC..

I'll pretty much guarantee 2 SEC teams & the 2 best from the other 3 conferences ... But will common sense be the SEC champion vs. another team that didn't play for the title? or a SEC championship re-match?

ND either needs to shite or get off the pot.

They're going to do everything in their power to make sure it isn't two 2 SEC teams IMO.

I'll guarantee the opposite.

The rematch of Bama LSU for the BCS title a few years ago was the catalyst that finally allowed the play-off zombies get their way. "The Nation" hated it. It got the lowest TV ratings ever for a BCS title game. Millions of dollars were lost by sponsors, networks, etc.. And they won't let that happen ever again.

The Play-off Czar committee works for the system. Not for us.......

Welcome to the begining of The End.

Like the BCS was better? It was never manipulated in any way?

God traditionalist like you suck so hard.

Playoffs were needed, we just need to expand to 16 teams

Too many games, and before you say "FCS does it," they play less regular season games and don't have conference championship games.

In other words, it's completely arbitrary.

Holy shite.......

Common Theme I Notice Among the Play-off Zombies:

They're usually these multi-sport-watching schlub fans. You know.....the one's who are equally content to watch NHL or NBA or Soccer or NFL etc as they are to watch college football.

They won't admit it (because they cant even realize it), but they are different than those of us who were raised on college football as priority #1.

And yet, we've let these zombies get a foothold and ruin our sport................

This sucks.

So you liked LSU jumping 5 spots over us in 2007?

There is a reason every other sport has playoffs. You can call me a zombie all you want but it doesn't change the fact that I'm right
