Gamecocks land running back AJ Turner
By Phil Kornblut

AJ Turner

RB AJ Turner of Centreville, VA Thursday night announced a commitment to USC from The Opening in Beaverton, OR. Turner had narrowed his list to a final five of the Gamecocks, Clemson, Virginia, Ohio State and Michigan State.

"I love the football coaches, the academics and the university itself," Turner said. "I'll be going into a great position for very early playing time."

Turner visited USC in April and saw things then that led him to believe the Gamecock program would be a good fit.

"They met the criteria that I have," Turner said. "Good academics and academic support, a campus ministry, I'm big on church, and a good football program with stability and bowl games."

Last season Turner rushed for 1258 yards and 31 touchdowns. He is USC's second commitment of the week and 22nd for the 2015 class. He's the Gamecocks' first running back commitment.

Good pick-up for USC at a position of need for the future. A.J. is a high 3* per 247, Rivals, and ESPN, and a 4* per Scout. He's had some solid results at The Opening which he is participating in, and most feel he'll be a unanimous 4* the next time ratings are updated. Hopefully we'll add 1 or 2 more RB to Turner in this class soon....

Awesome, glad we have him. He scored the 10th highest for RB/APB's at The Opening for SPARQ testing. I'm curious to see the feedback on how he did in the team drills/games. If he did well, he may get bumped up.

He's a solid 3 star but will move up in the rankings. Thank god you didn't put USC e like that other douche did. I'll never view him as a Carolina fan ever. I like the get though. I'm thinking we close with Bailey, Lewis, DJ Jones, Tyson or the Bama RB and one more. Can't remember off the top of my head.

That would be a solid way to finish the class, you'll need to add Sawyer (hopefully) too. Durant as well if he can enroll in January. If not, possibly Caban. Who knows, we have interest from several different guys we like and probably about 7-10 spots left if we can EE/Finance Aid a lot of guys. We'll see what happens.

Turner is a 3rd down type of RB to me or passing situation RB. I think we'll need at least one 1st/2nd down grinder/power RB.

Well technically I could've just labeled him as a 4* RB, as Scout does have him rated as a 4*, but we all know Scout ain't that good. He's a 89-3* (a 90 grade gets you the 4*) with 247Sports, and a 5.7 3* (a 5.8 nets you the 4*) with Rivals, so he's definitely a "solid" 3*. He's been doing very well at The Opening, and the talk was he was expected to move up a bit in the ratings even before then, so that's why I titled it like I did...

He only needs to move up 2 spots within his position as well to be a 4 star. We'll see what happens.

We'll have a Top Ten class but we'll need luck to finish Top 4 in the SEC.

The SEC mops-up this recruiting season.

Kids graduating HS this year only know Carolina as a top 10 team. Most don't have any idea of Y'alls history. Next year should be even better.

Ancient history rarely matters. Most people live within the memorable history of their lives - it's human nature.

We've still got a ways to go but we're getting there.
