It's not BS. It works. I've done it before. But it doesn't work nearly as well as the pictures show.

There were a couple of decent to good tips in there. Never had that much trouble getting a fire started except when it was very wet. A small starter isn't going to do much then.

There are like 4-5 of those that would be considered 'life-hacks', if you're talking about completing a task in a surprising, unconventional way.
