I have the vehicle in shop and was wondering what most paid for labor rates?

I am hoping that the starter on the Jeep can be fixed for 70 for part, and 125 labor.

If I am off on price or guesstimate, how much am I off?

Is it at a dealership? If So, at LEAST double that for the starter and and add 75 to the labor.
If it is at a smaller shop, you might be close.

Starter is going to be more than $70. At a deaker, probably closer to $175.

Shop labor rates run from $90/hr to $125/hr around here.

How handy are you?

Starter is fairly easy to do.

Yep, and a starter should be 1 hour labor, but some bigger shops have a 2 hour minimum now.

I just hate being without a vehicle...

I wished I could fix myself, but just do not trust myself replacing it. I took it to a local shop that was recommended by a neighbor. I knew the dealer would be 2 to 2.5 times the cost.

Does Chilton's have their labor guide online? Isn't that the general guideline for labor?

That use to be the guideline, don't know if it is available online. Its a real easy job though, surprised they didn't already finish it today.

On a Jeep the part will likely cost more, probably double.

Labor rate is probably right on.

$125 hr? lulz

How old are you?

Find a good mechanic in the country somewhere that charges $40 an hour and learn to be happy.

I just had an engine rebuilt for a 2009 4Runner for one of my daughters. The dealership quoted me $7,100.00. A city mechanic quoted me $6,400.00.

I found a mechanic in the country that did it for $2,300.00 with new parts and it runs like a top.

Learn to shop around. Invest what you save for a rainy day and take nice vacations when you retire.

ETA: Shame on you for buying a POS Jeep.

Free Advice: Buy Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, Accurate, Honda and some Fords. Live and learn. Stay the hell away from everything else but ESPECIALLY Mopar/Chrysler/Jeep and ALL GM products.

Trust me.

Where you at?

I'll put your starter on for a 12pack and a can of Grizzly wintergreen.

So I got the call today, wont be finished until tomorrow.

Cost is 156.30 including labor, sales tax, and tow.

As for people bitching at me for having a Jeep, it was a throw in during a trade. My Ford Explorer Sport Trac for a Yukon and the Jeep. Now momma has her SUV and I have something to drive besides the Camaro.

I think I could do it if I had the right tools...but since I use it to tow the boat I wanted to make sure done right.

Isn't it disconnect ground wire, couple of bolts? Line up the coil on housing? I just never tried before.

I do anything that would be simple by myself. This includes alternators, starters, water pump, basically any of the auxiliary systems in my Mustang. The only part I've had to replace more than once has been the alternator. I bought the first from O'Riley and the refurbished ones they give out go out after around 20,000 miles, but I just take it in to exchange it for free and put the new one in in around 15 minutes. If its free, I don't mind the shite part.

Dude a starter is very easy to replace. It is literally disconnecting the electrical lines and unbolting the starter from the vehicle and then putting the new one in.

I have huge hands and it is a very small place but it only took me about an hour to figure it out.
