A few college buddies in Houston and I are going to our Thursday night opener at USCe and the Clemson @ UGA game that Saturday. We're flying in and out of ATL for this long weekend adventure. I've never been to Georgia or South Carolina before and I'm really looking forward to seeing those states.

A couple of questions...

What is the best way to get tickets to the UGA game? I'm assuming it will be a sell out and day of game purchase is best? Is there a UGA ticket exchange website that is better than others? We already have tickets to our game

Since we'll have all day Friday to do whatever, what are some things we should consider doing or checking out? Anywhere between or near the route from Columbia to Athens is fair game.

How long does the drive take from ATL to Columbia on a Wednesday night? Columbia to Athens on a Friday evening?

Tickets will be expensive, no way around it. Revenge game from last year, opening night, 5:30 kickoff, seldom played matchup that used to be a nasty rivalry, etc. Unless you just want the peace of mind of having them beforehand, your best bet will likely be to just buy from people on the bridge (at the stadium) beforehand, or just walking around camps. Think of a number you're willing to pay and check stubhub to see if you get lucky.

Spend it in Athens, don't waste your time anywhere else. I PROMISE you spending all day Friday in Athens the day before kickoff is going to be electric. I can give plenty of things to do closer to kick.

My opinion is if you are going to plan a trip, why not plan your seats as well. there is nothing worse than having to sacrifice money or shitty seats on the day of a game.

Stubhub is good or craigslist, but can be sketchy

3 hours from Atlanta to Columbia, unless there's a wreck or heavy traffic in Atlanta. Once you get past metro Atlanta, there is absolutely nothing save Augusta in between.

From Columbia to Athens will probably be 2.5 hours. I would recommend that, after the Thursday game between USC and A&M, eat a late brunch/early lunch in Columbia and take Highway 378 to Athens. It turns into Hwy 78 around Thomson, Georgia. This is a longer route than I-20, but you will see some amazing countryside in both states.

Looking like about 10-1030 pm. I haven't booked yet but that's about when they land from Houston.

You're getting to ATL at 10:30pm wednesday? Wow that's gonna be a tough drive. Obviously it's your trip and you'd probably prefer to save money where you can, but if at all possible I'd recommend staying at a cheap motel 8 or something in Gwinnett (maybe 20 mins east of Atlanta) that night and recharge your batteries.

If you get to columbia and go to sleep at 3:30am, plus with your body not adjusting ot the time difference yet...you're gonna be struggling. On the other hand, if you're in bed by 11:30, get you a good nights sleep and get out of gwinnett by 7am, you're feeling good and downing some beer by 10am in columbia.

You wont find tix on day-of, its not like a noon kick vs mizzou.

Stub hub, and bend over.

Ask for more athens info closer to the date and youll get some good info.

Also, if you havent already booked hotel, u screwed.

There are direct flights on United Express from IAH to Columbia. I remember seeing them when I briefly looked at going to the SC game. Not sure if others have already booked, they were expensive though

Gotta listen to the body.

Before the sugar bowl in 07/08, my group was so got dang fired up that we decided to leave ATL at midnight because we couldnt' wait around any longer. We pulled into New Orleans at 8am that day of the game, but instead of being jacked up and ready to drink and gamble all day, we were zombies. We spent most of the first half of the day attempting to get any sleep we could, or half heartedly get some food down. It was awful.

Get some rest around ATL and just make a full day of it thursday, I think in the long run you'll be better off for it, especially tailgating-wise.

ETA: OH, forgot to mention. I just drove in I-20 about a month ago from ATL to NC. That stretch between Augusta and Columbia is AWFUL. There is NOTHING and it's not lit either besides your headlights and the moon. I'd seriously be worried about you falling asleep at the wheel.

What WG Dawg said. Not to mention, there is no point in paying for 2 nights in Cola when you won't be getting in until after 2:00 am Thursday morning. Any hotel in the Vista or near 5 Points will be expensive from Wednesday through Sunday because of the home opener. Save your money and stay in a cheap hotel by Hartsfield. Leave Atlanta by 9:00 am Thursday and you'll be in Cola before 1:00 pm.
