SEC Phobia with the SWAC (football)

This is something that I've been wanting to discuss for while and I would love to hear other thoughts, but why on earth does most SEC schools refuse to play SWAC schools when proximity is so close. I never understood it. I feel like a barrier that needs to be broken down and it looks bad. I far as I know the only SEC vs SWAC games are Miss St vs JSU and Alcorn. But I don't belie baby other SEC school has ever played a SWAC and I would love to know why not.

no "barrier" needs to be broken. we'd all struggle to not hang 70 on their respective programs.
let's not forget that plenty of people are furious those schools are even running. it's a disservice to those poor kids who attend grambling and southern and think they're getting an education. we're fully integrated, so they have simply become obsolete. their degrees are worthless, and their athletic programs waste tax dollars.

we're trying to go away from the cupcakes, not more toward them

Because their football is turrible?
If you're gonna play an FCS team, at least pick one with a pulse.
Correction: If you're gonna play an FCS team, at least play one that is eligible to play for the FCS championship.

I don't think Mississippi State is the beacon of SEC scheduling prowess.

Your statement is so ignorant that it's making second guess even posting this question

The majority of the schools in the East are not close to proximity to the Soul Conference.

The SWAC doesn't contend for the FCS Championship because of the revenue they get from their annual classic games " bayou Classic" "turkey day Classic". Has nothing to do with competition of play. The argument of quality of competition is not a good one. Go look at Bama's and LSU schedule the last 5 years...

No, it's really not. We are fully integrated. The successful alumni of those schools send their kids to other schools and donate their money elsewhere.
they should at the very least consolidate a lot of louisiana universities and shut a few down. Southern would be a lot better off just shutting down its satellite campuses. i know Jindal at one point tried to shut down SUNO, but Louisiana politics wouldn't allow it.
as far as athletics, yes, we'd all hang 60+ on you

How many FCS schools has the SEC played in total in the last 5 years

Why Mississippi has 3 publicly funded HBC still running (Jackson State, Alcorn, and Valley) is beyond me. Time to consolidate.

um yes it is.
Southern (the SWAC champion) played 2 schools in FBS last year. Houston beat them by 50 and Northwestern State beat them by 30.
The SWAC is the absolute pit of FCS competition wise. If you are going to schedule an FCS school most schools schedule one with half a pulse.

Most teams play one FCS school per season, so 64 in total [(12*5) + (2*2)]

not always true. But at this point it seems like a huge assumption on the OPs part

Kentucky played Alabama State last season and beat them 48-14. They were one of our two wins last season.
Nobody is scared of the SWAC.

2012 Auburn played alabama st(SWAC) and beat them 51-7, that should say something as well

This is one of the dumbest thread topics I've ever seen on here. And that's saying something.

LSU played Towson a year ago. Last year UT played a school that I've never even heard of . Ole Miss play south east Missouri . Teams that A good SWAC school etc. Southern, JSU, Bama St would bear. So please spear me the " we'll hang 60 on you" comments

LSU doesn't play Southern in football because they don't want to divide the town for no reason. LSU has made great strides in the African American community over the last 30 years to convince them to support both schools. There's no reason re-ignite the animosity that once was much more prevalent.
Also, SWAC schools carry even less legitimacy in the eyes of pollsters than do most of the other dregs of the FCS. There's simply zero upside to scheduling them.

Do they have sidewalkers in the SWAC? For their sake, I hope you're one.
