Add in 2007 & 2012. I personally don't believe conference Championships should have an effect in rankings but thankfully the BCS is over with.

The SEC was dominate during the BCS era. Unfortunately Georgia lost critical games every year during that period that kept them out of the top 2 spots. As seen by the graphic, 2002 would have hypothetically using the BCS formula been the only year in which we would have had a shot in a 4 team playoff.

The most ridiculous thing was in 2007 when we were ranked 4th, two teams ahead of us lost, and we fell to 5th. That was pure "keep Georgia out, since they didn't win their conference" lunacy, which is made worse when you consider people (Herbstreit being notable, but there were others) who were against Georgia playing in the title game in 2007 but supported Michigan playing in the title in 2006 after not winning their conference.

I can buy the argument that we didn't belong in the title game, but to be ranked 5th at that point was completely asinine.

Yea, to DROP a spot after 2 teams ahead of us lost was completely absurd. I still can't wrap my head around that one.

What's sad is how many whiney "we were so close" threads get posted on this board. Not sure what's worse, this or the obsessive posts about Auburn

Was this the final rankings or the one before the bowl games?

You haven't been paying attention. We hate our team to a fault and belittle our coaches and players at every opportunity. Do try to keep up.

While I agree, that didn't happen and LSU handled Ohio St. easily in the title game. Our problem as usual was not taking care of business at home against a 6 loss South Carolina and of course the embarrassing arse whooping in Knoxville which put Tennessee in the SECCG. Could UGA have beaten LSU in the SECCG? Maybe, we will never know. Could we have beaten OSU in the title game? Probably but again we will never know.....

One thing is for sure. You don't have to worry about ""whiny" we were so close threads" on a Tech board.

I thought Tech prided themselves in being smarter?

Has to be before bowl games. Note 2006, 2007 and 2012.

But they did take care of business in the SECCG and that is the point. Was LSU lucky that 1 of their losses was outside the West division? Sure but they won when they had to win/clutch winning in the SECCG and in the NCG.

Bottom line: UGA didn't win when they had to win.
