LSU fans: Why do you avoid the purple jersey?

I'm not trolling. Have never understood why LSU has such a strong prefernce for the white jersey over the purple. What is the real story?

I wish we would incorporate more purple into everything. Basically everything I have LSU wise is predominantly purple, not a yellow (gold) fan.

I think that's a bit of an oversimplification. The longer story that I heard was that LSU wore white at home for good luck in a game against a highly-ranked Georgia Tech squad in the late 1950s (because GT's team had long been known for wearing white at home). LSU won the game and kept wearing white jerseys for the remainder of the season for good luck.

I like when we wear purple. I like the tradition of wearing white jerseys and I like that we wear purple against in state schools.
tl;dr I like what we are currently doing as far as uniform usage and tradition.

I can't even remember the last time we lost a game in purple Jerseys. You will have to dig into the 90s to figure that out...
ETA:Just found out the last time LSU lost a game in the Purple Jerseys was at Florida in 2000. A 13 year run undefeated in the Purple jerseys, going for 14

I guess it also begs the question why Georgia Tech wears white at home, since it influenced LSU into wearing white at home.

Yea our whites had stood the test of time and are still the best looking jerseys in the nation IMO.

Dinardo is the man responsible for bringing the tradition back. LSU had a long stretch where we wore the purples in the traditional home team configuration.
I love our white jerseys as much as the next guy, but I hate how little the purples get worn. I'd like to see the purples come out more every now and again against SEC foes at home. I don't see the current setup changing any time soon though.

The purples are by far my favorite. Whenever we bring them out it's exciting for me.

On a side note, why does LSU call yellow gold?
I like the white jersey with yellow pants.
