Criteria: must be founded in an SEC college town.

Most around the world would say R.E.M. I feel like Southerners would say DBT or WSP. I know Better than Ezra is from BR and Hootie is from Columbia.

Are there others?

Mississippi has artists from nearby areas of Oxford and Starkville (the blues is 45 minutes away in the Delta and three of Blind Melon's original members are from Columbus, MS). Those do not count.

Hootie. I guarantee he's sold more copies than any other band or musician.

Justin Bieber has sold a lot of records too. That doesn't make him the best.

I'm pretty sure Tom Petty has sold more than him.

It probably would be if we are talking about real SEC schools.
