So I currently live in the Summerwood area (Northeast corner of beltway off Lake Houston) and am looking to move either in The Heights area or somewhere close to 610 on the west side. According to the website the prices are outrageous.

Anybody know of a decent place to rent? Will be looking at 2 bed 2 bath fwiw.

Getting back inside the loop is hot right now. Places are being sold before they even go on the market. Good luck.

And Summerwood is a nice area. I used to live in Fall Creek. I miss only being 15-20 min from downtown during not rush hours.

What are you looking to pay? I assume you have a roommate lined up for a 2 bedroom.

If you want a newer place you're probably looking at like 2000 minimum right new in the Heights. There are some older bungalows that you might be able to get for cheap but you could have sketchy neighbors or the place could be a shithole. Several of my friends have moved out to the heights and certain parts are most definitely still being gentrified.

You might be able to get a floor on one of those older two floor places that are all around Montrose for cheap that's pretty nice since the gays are always tidy. I would keep an open mind on neighborhoods, I'm sure there are bargains out there.

It's not bad, but there's nothing for my age here. All the restaurants between West Lake Houston Parkway and 59 have terrible service, and the one bar my friends and I frequent is Shamrocks in Humble.

I wouldn't mind up to $1,000 each payment, but my potential roommate wants to pay less. I pay 849 right now.

Prefer apartment, but open to a house.

I have some friends that just moved in to Lofts at the Ballpark and like it a lot. Great location within walking distance of a great bar area (warehouse district), East downtown, minute maid, and bbva. Seems to be in your price range.

I bet you can find something for 2000 total/1k each. Where would you be commuting to? If possible I would look around that whole area from the heights down through Washington/Montrose to Midtown. They aren't far from each other and all have a young population and it gives you more options. Look on Craigslist and HAR.com. I know Metro Midtown, which is all kids just out of college, right next to all the midtown bars and has by far the best pool in the summer has 2 bed/1 baths for 1700-2000.

That's a good suggestion too. You can take a cab/uber to bars near the heights easy from there and I think the Minute Maid metro station opens soon to take to Midtown and Reliant

Honestly I just moved from the Heights area last year into the Clear Lake area (Webster to League City) and its the best decision I have ever made. Not too far from Houston, but also not close enough to get the headache of traffic etc. The area is booming (getting our own Top Golf soon) TONS of bars and Hooters like restaurants (Twin Peaks, Bone Daddys, Bombshells) etc. If you are a mid 20 something to early thirties its really fun right now.

Not sure if being that far for reasons such as work would conflict but I would check it out if you arent obligated to a certain area.

Just outside of 610, east of 290, is the place to be.

This. Trying to get inside the loop is a losing proposition.

EADO can be a little rough sometimes. One of my friends had a gun pulled on them in the middle of the damn day.

I have a friend and his wife who live in the heights, been there 2 years now I think, no idea how they afford it really. It seems to me like inside Dallas is cheaper than Houston from what my friends tell me, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, but then you're inside Dallas. Who the hell wants that?

Alright my favorite places right now.

You can easily rent a heights orginal house for way less then you looking for. However you're going to have classy neighbors like drug dealers.

Bayou on the bend

Rice Hotel Lofts

the Best part of this place is that you generally don't have neighbors during the weekends and holidays.

Greystar properties

A alot of the greystar properties are real nice.

My wife and I lived in this apartment complex for almost 3 years. We liked it there, had a 2 bedroom 1 bath and when we left were paying about 1250 a month. The area was nice, and we always use to walk to the Galleria, there is also a Best Buy and Chick-fil-a right next door to the apartment.
