I was curious so I looked it up. I figured I might as well share here. All dates come from Wikipedia, however I am sure some douche will say "technically we were founded a month before blah blah blah" who gives a shite

Year founded - School name (First year of football)

1785 - Georgia (1892)
1794 - Tennessee (1891)
1801 - South Carolina (1892*)
1831 - Alabama (1892)
1839 - Missouri (1890)
1848 - Ole Miss (1890)
1853 - Florida (1906)
1856 - Auburn (1892)
1860 - LSU (1893)
1865 - Kentucky (1892)
1871 - Arkansas (1894)
1873 - Vanderbilt (1890)
1876 - Texas A&M (1894)
1878 - Mississippi State (1895)

Was Georgia still a criminal colony back then? Kinda funny that Georgia was founded for that purpose and over two centuries later their football players still honor their roots.

I feel sad for the 100 years of students that didn't get to know the joy of football.

UF was the last school to start a football program (only SEC school to wait until the 20th century).....very interesting

Eta: looks like football became very popular in the 1890's

Florida claims 1853, but in reality the school wasn't founded until 1906. The oldest building on campus was built in 1906.

So what happened for 53 years? That's a pretty big gap to be a mistake.

His dates are way off on UF clearly, they started playing football in 1990.

It is not a mistake, it is just that the UF we know today was the result of a merger of different state institutions when the state decided to reorganize the state university system. The founding date we use is from the oldest of the institutions that make up UF.
