The author's conspiracy theory is actually too simple. The mere act of placing a ton of SEC teams in the preseason ranking is only a small part of the equation and actually doesn't have as much effect as he believes. There is much more effect in the constant hot air about the conference effect human polls. Additionally the SEC's bowl record has fallen off a little, but you have to realize they are doing things like pitting the 5th best SEC team vs the 2nd best ACC team - the pairings are not balanced, specifically to make good games and bring in more money for the SEC.

Much of the justification for placing SEC teams high in the pre-season rankings come from recruiting rankings - which, oh by the way, are done by ESPN too. This were the real sham is. And we all see it everyday. SEC schools rankings are artificially inflated. Additionally, the ESPN SEC propaganda is effecting the decisions of a high % of the impressionable youth every year. ESPN created a self fulfilling prophecy. By instituting ever so slightly the fake it till you make it strategy, it has actually made the SEC the best conference.

I have researched and tried to right my own computer ranking algorithms. Everything i have done and seen lately, even with unbiased polls, actually gives the SEC credit these days as a superior conference. It is because they are. The sham happened years ago and what we see now is the result of it. I can only hope that since the ACC is also broadcast by ESPN, that ACC success is beneficial enough for them to not totally torpedo it.

However, when you hear ESPN announcers say shite like "FSU is built on the SEC model" and "FSU is basically an SEC team in the ACC" then you really have to have concern.

from 1992 to 2011, the SEC produced almost 600 NFL players and the ACC 200 and change... when did the talent gap start again?

So an Oregon boy hates the south and the SEC? Color me shocked.

As well as by three other recruiting services. All of which say the SEC schools recruit at a higher level.

Christy,

Man that link and author are full of hot gas wouldn't you say? I like a good fictional read as well as anyone but, getting through all that gave me the sensation of being filibustered into submission...

I need another cup of coffee and a walk on the pier.

The SEC time in and time out proves they are the superior conference on the field...thats what matters. While I agree ESPN has a love-fest with the SEC...it doesn't change the facts. The SEC is footballs strongest conference for awhile now. Just accept it and move on.

Russell Wilson went to Wisconsin man. Yeah he spent some time at NC State but by that logic Nick Marshall is best player wherever he ends up and UGA can do a fist pump?
