We just cleaned out the vegetable stand and ate all we could get. Seems scarcer this year. Anyone running into a lot of it? Would love to get my hands on some more. Coming through GA in a few weeks.

FWIW... I think it's still too early for local farm grown corn from say around north of a line from LaGrange to Milledgeville to Augusta. Most folks in N. Ga. were late planting due to the rain & cold. You might find a little tho...

Mine is 3 weeks away....

So what you're saying is drop by your house in three weeks to pick some up. Got it. See you then and thanks!

I have Peaches 'n Cream that will be ready in about 2-3 weeks. I expect to put about 200 ears in the freezer, and donate another 200 ears to a local group that passes out veggies to needy families. I have been taking them about 4 dozen squash a week for the last month. I saute up squash in olive oil and buter most every night for dinner.

114 acres. But the garden is only an acre. The horses roam the rest.
I have tomatoes, cucumbers, okra and beans too. I'll plant a small patch of turnip greens in August.

Damn. It's about time to start hitting up the local farmer's market. Haven't had some silverqueen in quite some time - its the best there is both on and off the cob.

Need some okra, too...just fry it up!

My uncle grows some that has white and yellow kernels. Not sure I've heard him say what the variety is, but it is mighty fine.

Probably Peaches 'n Cream. It has a sweet buttery taste.

Well, it doesn't take that much more work to tend an acre over a 1/2 acre. But I enjoy being able to help out some needy friends and neighbors.

If you were real friend you would teach them to corn. instead of subsidizing their entitlement and creating liberal corn slaves . be part of the solution cowboy

Killer Pesto...

quote:

Ingredients

2 cups packed fresh basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
1/4 cup pine nuts
2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1/2 cup freshly grated Pecorino cheese

quote:

Directions
Combine the basil, garlic, and pine nuts in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Add 1/2 cup of the oil and process until fully incorporated and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

If using immediately, add all the remaining oil and pulse until smooth. Transfer the pesto to a large serving bowl and mix in the cheese.

If freezing, transfer to an air-tight container and drizzle remaining oil over the top. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw and stir in cheese.

I'm allergic to pesto. I had some on grouper and for five days everything tasted like metal. I thought I had tongue cancer. Look it up, really weird reaction. Apparently a good many people have it.

Not funny the second time either.
Would you expect a 70 year old Vietnam vet with lung damage from Agent Orange to work a garden all day? Laugh at that a while.
