So, they tie their last game and lose this one...... but will still advance?
Yep. Commie sport.

Maybe Bradley will decide to play and Altadore can get healthy.

its a round robin
Would it help if we reversed our outcomes?
Lets pretend we lost to Germany first. Then tied Portugal.
Now we have to beat Ghana to advance.
Tonight we beat Ghana 2-1.
Does this help?

He won't respond. He came in for his one liner so he could be center of attention and now he's out. Just ignore him.

It does actually.
What was all that talk about "the Group of Death" though?
That name is kind of misleading isn't it when you only have to win 1 of 3.

well you also have to tie one too. And hope that the team you tie gets the ever living shite beat out of them by the team you lose to. It was very very very close for us not to qualify to advance.
Well lets say the SEC has a round robin tournament. If Alabama, LSU, UGA, and FL were all in a group together it would be considered the "group of death".
Usually in each group theres 2 really good teams, a mediocre team, and a low talent team. In our group there was 2 really good teams, and 2 good teams. Had a 30% chance of making it out and we played extremely conservatively when we needed to, and very offensively when we played ghana. We did exactly what we needed to, sans losing to germany, probably wanted to tie it.

I see.
It's win or go home from now on though, right?
What happens when final whistle blows and it's tied now? Straight to shoot out? What is shoot out format? What if tied after shoot out?

quote:30 extra minutes. Not sudden death/golden goal, the full 30 will be played. If still tied, then it's a shootout. 5 shots for each team and if it's still even then it goes sudden death.

Yeah, now it's like a regular game. Has to be a winner.
The reason for ties is because they aren't ranked by wins or losses, its ranked on a point system. 3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. The team with the most points at the end of the season gets the trophy.

That is pretty commie though, if you think about it. Isn't it? I mean, it's probably unlikely, but couldn't a team that never won a single game but instead got a bunch of ties.... couldn't they realistically win it all under those rules? Just sayin.

So, pretty much this thing is only getting started.........
I admit. It can be pretty pretty exciting. I'll be watching.

Ties don't happen that often. These players are good enough to be able to score if their teams need them to, it's the risk of a counter attack that keeps them conservative. When there HAS to be a winner, you'll see more games closer to 3-0, 5-0, all the way to 3-4, 2-3, 4-5. Once one team scores, the entire flow shifts and becomes more offensive.

So, when they reward ties and don‘t penalize losing as much, the players lose incentive and lay back and it becomes more of a low scoring boredom fest?…………… But, when it’s all or nothing, the sport gets more exciting with higher productivity and scoring.....because the players have an incentive to bust their arse and fight and take chances??
Sounds like a commie vs. Capitalism debate in a nutshell to me.
Maybe this is why soccer is more popular in commie countries than it is in the U.S. Although soccer has been gaining popularity here recently though.
But then maybe that gain in popularity is just a side-effect of the fact that the U.S. is becoming more and more commie by the day.
This is fascinating. Thanks for the info. Good discussion……

Typical soccer fan. I barely even got near you….But, now you're acting like you've been assaulted.....
Whatever. You missed my point though. Nascar made the same commie mistake a while back. They replaced their traditional championship with a commie gimmick called “The Chase”……where all you had to do was get by and sneak in to the final ten…and the side-effect was that, instead of going balls-out to win, teams became content with finishing top-10 etc…and having ”a good points day”…..
That shite’s gone now though.
