This S. Arky boy was one of the best people I met while attending Okie Light. It's too bad this character went out of state, but he'll find success wherever he goes.
Congrats on that degree. We had many convo's about no matter what happens, getting that degree and getting a foot in the door into a life outside of rural Arkansas being the most important thing about being at college.

Little town in NWA. My dumbass thought their new Entrepreneurship program sounded like a good idea. U. of Arkansas and Arkansas was waaaaaaay behind when I chose to transfer to OSU.

I've never quite understood the point of an entrepreneurship program. It seems like something that you could just...I don't know...figure out frmo general business classes/common sense/hard work. What does it entail?

I don't either. To me, you either have that kind of a personality or not; I'm not sure how you teach someone to be an entrepreneur.
Down here in Waco, Baylor has a program in Entrepreneurship that is quite popular from what I've been told. I have no idea what the grads do after college.

Ditto. It's sort of like majoring in leadership or something -- you're either one or not, same goes for entrepreneurship.

What's the backstory here? Did Petrino not offer him, or slow play him, or did Collins just not like tPOS?

Hmmm. Sounds like you got bad info. The U of A's entrepreneurship training is top notch. I believe we've won more start up competitions than any other school in the country over the past decade.

Its about understanding how to vet ideas and acquire capital for new ventures. Lots of people start businesses with half-baked ideas, or have good ideas but don't understand how to get capital. Both types of people could benefit from entrepreneurship training.

My friend wants to know how to get capital...tips?

I'll explain in greater detail later tonight, but in 2008 U. of A wasn't doing 1/10th of what they are now, and there for sure wasn't a wave of startups in NWA. There were not any angel funds, or VC funds dedicated to state resources (ideas, sweat equity, ideas, local investors), The ONLY VC/IB funds only played in secondary and growth phase rounds, and start up was a taboo word in Arkansas banking circles.

Put together a business plan and go to banks. Or now, go to start up events around NWA. They even have them in places like Siloam Springs.

True, although the entrepreneurship program at U of A was already of a high quality, it wasn't really resulting in a lot of capitalized start ups like it has the past five years. As such it wasn't being blown by the press nearly as much.

This is more what I'm talking about. How does one find out about "start up/venture capital" events/meet & greets?
My wife has a pretty good idea she is wanting to patent and produce a prototype. I just don't want us to have to self-finance.
