Vandy isn't the dominant program in Tennessee, BUT!

It may be soon though. Both are the same in football right now, Tennessee has the edge in basketball, but vandy is clearly better in baseball. Vandy academics are in a different league than UTs and let's be honest Nashville > Knoxville.

You can't really compare Nashville and Knoxville. Entirely different feels to both. Like comparing BR to NOLA, or Athens to ATL.

I think it's just the fact that Vanderbilt's playing in the CWS final.

The Vols fall from grace over the last decade has been stunning. And hilarious.

How are they the same in football? Vandy has won 2 straight, had way better records and played in bowl games. UT just had a nice recruiting class.

Arkansas guy, you are a fan of one of the two SEC teams that UT legitimately can talk shite to. Stay out. You have been warned.

Grew up in Nashville, now a fifth year at ut. I love Nashville and Knoxville probably equally but for different reasons.

And UTs football program is head and shoulders above vandy's. 2 years doesn't change that.

I like both. Nashville has the charm of being a larger city but not feeling like one and Knoxville has the scenery/proximity to the mountains. If the two of them could merge their positive qualities (and they're more than what I listed), it might make for one incredible city.

It may be soon though.

2014 class rankings (per rivals)
UT 5th (3rd in SEC)
VU 48th (14th in SEC)

2015 rankings per 247 (rivals doesn't have them yet)
UT 7th (5th in SEC)
VU 73rd (14th in SEC)

Doubt anything's changing in this state anytime soon.

In fairness, I doubt the rankings were any closer the past few years. The difference was on coaching, player development, and desire to compete. Oh, and I'm sure there was some difference in ability to evaluate guys who maybe weren't high on ranking services but would be better players. Either way, those numbers really aren't an end-all be-all of proving UT is about to catch then run away from Vandy in football again.
