It's only a matter of time I suppose - but boy oh boy staffs better be careful doing it. I dunno, I would guess most SEC staffs will be really careful doing it and only for so-called can't miss prospects.

We will never do it. There is no reason for us to do so.

Chizik & Co started this years ago - not sure if Gus is doing the same. But it's been done before in the SEC.

I can understand how this could convince an 18 year old recruit to choose team A over team B, but what if that recruit is a 21 year old JR who didn't pan out at all and is taking up scholarship space for a new 18 year old stud recruit?

No reason for LSU to do it, all our players leave after three years

How can anyone be behind this when regular students on academic schollies are reviewed every year and sometimes every semester, as my NSF grant was. If they don't make the grades they pay their own way. Athletes should not be getting any benefits the rest of the student body can't get.

Won't change much IMO. Very few players are going to stick around just out of spite or for a mass comm degree if told they have no chance to see the field.

Teams/coaching staffs that offer guaranteed 4-5 yr scholarships are doing it because they want to "try" to get ahead of the other programs that only offer 1 yr (renewable) scholly's. They think that by offering guaranteed scholly's the top recruits and their parents will jump right on it. i.e. Why go play at Bama when Saban will "process" you out in a heart beat..... when you can play for AU and you are guaranteed 4 yrs......

This is about PR more than anything. Any four year scholarship would have conduct requirements that could give the school an out. That scholarship only counts for as long as that player stays at the school.

It's just an insurance policy for the player that they won't get processed if they don't pan out as players.

I've been wondering if State has done that and thought when the new rule came out that it was something we should try for top prospects. Might give us an edge over better programs. I'm actually surprised that we haven't (if we haven't).

ANy team that doesn't over sign as egregiously as others have technically been doing it, if not officially.
Lack of football skills in the absence of stupidity has very rarely sent UGA players home early.

Exactly. More risk for the school than necessary though IMO
