It's about time that quack got taken down. He's been raking in millions by endorsing "miracle pills" that cause people to lose weight without changing their lifestyles.

There is no way to lose weight except by limiting food intake and increasing exercise. How can so many people be gullible enough to buy Oz's shite and other false diet plans?

Everybody's looking for an easy fix. I have a cousin and a friend who has had gatric bypass surgery. Both have had multiple health issues come up as a result.

I believe that the drug companies pay him to push their product. Every old lady in the world will go buy canned air is Dr. Oz says to.

It always amazes me how much money is made off of supplements/vitamins/miracle cure pills. People are very gullible I guess.

That's great and all but when was the last time that any of them took a hard look at the use of pesticides/herbicides in the US that are banned in most European countries? Did they say that isn't a threat to citizens but Dr. Oz is?

Sorry, I don't understand your point. Are you saying the use of some pesticides/herbicides in the US that are banned in Europe is a threat to Americans?

It's the USDA that determines which pesticides and herbicides can be used here. The circumstances for agriculture are different in Europe vis a vis America. I'm not sure we should look to Europe for leadership in anything.

Dr. Oz is being accused of false advertising by Congress. It's a common chore for that body to make sure the dumbest among us are protected from charlatans such as Oz.

Yeah, except there are no evolution filters for the human population anymore. We, as a species are intently focused on "saving" even the dumbest and most frail.

There are no natural enemies that can cull the weakest amongst us. No diseases that keep our total numbers in proportion to our environment. No natural limits on food sources that would prevent us from breeding at will.

We have control of our destiny and seem intent on breeding ourselves out of existence.

Its a legitimate point, we are the only species in existence which is effectively immune to natural selection. While its great to keep loved ones around who would have died at any other point in human history or save a child with birth defects, it does have negative implications. There are millions of people alive in the world today who nature says shouldnt be, and that isnt always a good thing.

I wouldn't say we are immune to natural selection. I'd say in our case that it works a bit slower than with other animals. Make no mistake: one day it will kick in gear (overpopulation) and the net effect will be at least the same as if natural selection had been happening normally all this time.

Exactly, and for that matter, how many so-called legitimate doctors get bribed to push a certain Rx on their patients? How many politicians are bribed by Monsanto and other companies who peddle cheap unsafe food?

Follow the money.

Well, okay, I suppose you're right on a technicality if we compare ourselves to lemmings. While it's been proven to be a misconception that lemmings commit mass suicide when their populations exceed their food supplies, this description seems to describe what is happening to humans.

We are a conscious species and are aware of what we are doing to ourselves, supposedly. We know that we are breeding beyond the capacity of the environment to provide food for all of us. There are 7.25 billion of us and 2 billion are malnourished or starving.

Thomas Robert Malthus was the first to sound the population growth alarm way back in the 18th century. His Malthusian growth model is descriptive of what's playing out with human population in the 21st century.

Malthus came to prominence for his 1798 essay on population growth. In it he argued that population multiplies geometrically and food arithmetically; therefore, the population will eventually outstrip the food supply.

He didn't mention, maybe he didn't foresee, the creative ways in which humans can make "food." An increasing amount of what we eat is manufactured in labs, not grown in or harvested from nature.

This is artificially increasing the maximum number of people the earth can support. Well, this and the plundering of the oceans and other biospheres without any consideration for preserving and managing them.

Those of us who can, such as Americans (70% of whom are overweight and 40% are obese), are gobbling up food at a rate never before seen in the history of the species. Charlatans such as Oz are contributing to the problem by offering false answers to the health problems overeating causes.

Even, or especially, the poor are fat. The term "fat poor" used to be an oxymoron. No more. We are the earth's first society that provides an excess amount of food to even the poorest of us.

Now everyone else on earth wants to be like us. It used to be said that the earth has enough resources to comfortably support only one United States. We were rich and powerful enough to suck in these resources as needed to continue fueling our consumer society.

In the 21st century we have steep competition. The rest of the world has paid attention to our model and has decided that's what they want as well. Almost all societies have modified their systems to rival ours. Globalization is real and is showing itself to be the danger to humanity that so many people have predicted in the past few decades.

Here's a quote from the cancer research foundation

75% of Americans diagnosed with cancer are said to receive chemotherapy treatment, which is of course suggested (and prescribed) by their oncologists.

BUT…

75% of oncologists also said that if they had cancer, they themselves would NOT use chemotherapy treatment. Why? Because of its “ineffectiveness and its unacceptable toxicity”.

Now I have not delved into this organizations background but I've heard others on various talk radio/health programs agree with this position, it does make you wonder where our focus is when it come to preventing and curing disease.
