First off, this is from Bleacher Report (BACK YOU DOGS, BACK!). It's written by Barrett Sallee, who I can agree is a total boob. HOWEVER, it does have some good quotes. Things I've been saying for a while about us not handling as many things internally like other SEC schools (cough Alabama cough Auburn). It's an interesting article. Read it you hyenas.

quote:

"He's kicking kids off the team where other coaches, many times, are keeping things in house," said former quarterback David Greene (2001-04). "It's a tough balance, because as college coaches, they're paid to win games. Some of the coaches treat it like the NFL and don't care about the kids. Coach Richt really, genuinely cares."

quote:

Georgia's drug policy is the strictest in the SEC, with players losing 10 percent of their season on the first offense, 30 percent on the second offense and being dismissed on the third.

There's a joke that persists on the Internet that Richt "has lost control" of pretty much everything, mostly because it became convenient to point the finger at the head coach as players continued to get in trouble.

"The perception outside the program is that people think Coach Richt is such a good guy that the players take advantage of him," said Greene, who co-hosts The David Greene College Show on 92.9 The Game in Atlanta every Thursday night. "The reality is the opposite. He holds his kids to a standard, and once you cross a line, he says, 'We have a policy here. You're not going to do this.'"

Richt explained his philosophy on discipline to B/R last month, and it can be summed up rather succinctly. He is going to "hit 'em where it hurts."

"We're going to hold them accountable," Richt told B/R in May. "Sometimes, in doing so, if you use playing time as a way to discipline, then it becomes a very public thing."

Bleacher report is right this time. It sucks but when it all boils down to it, Richt cares more about coaching these boys into men, than into football stars. I feel like it would mean more to a parent to have their kid being coached by a man like that.

It shows too, whenever Richt or a UGA player is in the midst of anything controversial. Aubies, mostly, will come out of the woodworks trying to roll their eyes and saying "yeah real christian lol!!1!11". That just means all this time they've had to sit quietly knowing deep down that Richt IS a great guy that practices what he preaches. Just gotta decide what's more important as a fan, winning no matter what and having a terrible dirty reputation or teaching these kids morals even if it means losing some games to do so.

Yea, I agree, he's a total dweeb. He's an Atlanta guy that went to Auburn so he naturally hates UGA but I'm really focusing on the David Greene and Shockley quotes in this article. Showing how Richt doesn't handle as many things internally like other schools and gets a bad rap for it. It's definitely something I wish he'd change because it's come back to bite us in the arse a few times.

Yeah but how sweet is it going to be when we win the big one doing it the right way?! This year no less.

But really have we lost any player due to discipline who you would have kept on the team? I can't think of any. What does bother me is NCAA stuff like A.J. Green getting a 4 game suspension for selling a jersey; meanwhile, Cam Newton's father is trying to sell his son to the highest bidder and Nick Fairley is getting away with the dirtiest play in college football.

I'm talking more in line of guys who we've suspended. Could have used JHC against Clemson. There's others I just don't feel like going back through it right now.

Hindsight is usually 20/20. I think when we look back at his career, UGA fans are going to be thankful to CMR for the job that he has done in representing the University. His expulsions have shown that, while happy to give second chances, he has a line that can't be crossed. Other coaches profess to be the man that he is, but CMR lives it. Hurts our win % sometimes, but keeps us away from Auburn-type reputations.
