Dunno. Sure both saw the writing on the wall, and if they didn't see it, someone told them? Payton coming off surgery plus all the talent signed in the backfield. Osborne would have held more importance if he played an end, but at 300+ he probably just wasn't ever going to contribute in a serious way with some of the others in his class as well. Though, I remember watching his tape from either last fall or whenever and liked what I saw, granted, it was just drills.

So, the fact that they're being "processed" out is good, right?

I'm so used to people being dejected with the team and transferring, I need to be directed as to how I should feel.

No idea what happened but both of those kids looked like good potential players, esp Osborne, loosing kids that have already been in the system a year or two always has a downside.

Yeah I've wondered about the processing also. At the power SEC programs you either make the team or are cut. I don't know if we are doing this now or not. There is going to be some people who leave in a big program.

Both were 2-star recruits who were listed as 4th on the depth chart at their respective positions.

For Payton it's pretty obvious he was a long shot to ever see the field in an SEC game. After spring ball, you know what the next 12 months hold generally. You can see the talent coming in behind you. The writing is on the wall.

Or, they just wanted to return to Texas to play for a Texas school.

I thought Payton was in line for a lot of playing time before he got hurt last fall

I would imagine they are being processed with a smile. I doubt GP would ever just yank a scholarship but I wouldn't be surprised if he's telling some of these kids that the writing is on the wall and if you want PT, we will do everything we can to help you find a landing spot. Nothing wrong with being honest and some of the kids obviously decide they'd rather play, even if it means transferring. So I don't know that Mizzou out and out processes kids, but I'd bet what they do approaches it.

I think that was true at one time. My guess is too many guys passed him up in the interim and a higher level of player is being brought in behind him, making his likelihood of seeing the field minimal.

Not much I agree w/ in that.

Osborne wasn't recruited by many because he wasn't expected to qualify, he played very well in a large Texas conference and 300 lb DT's are not that common. He would have given us depth a spot we rarely have ever had it. The fact he was a rivals 2 star is completely immaterial.

Payton was one of the better hitting DB's on the team and this team has been thin on such players lately, he was doing very well before the injury. I don't see a lot of highly rated recruits coming in behind him, they are mostly unhearalded average rated recruits.

Osborne: Augusta/Crawford/Brantley/Hatley/Winston/Logan That's 6 guys probably ahead of him in his class or the class immediately before him. Not so much the stars, but the numbers tell me he probably wouldn't have found the field (and I liked what little I saw of him and yes, no such thing as too much depth). Add to it, if we can somehow land Beckner, he'll probably move inside and play from day 1.

Payton: Liked him too but if we now have depth anywhere on defense, it's in the backfield. I think the staff has done a great job of upgrading the level of player they're bringing in back there. Gibson and Penton will likely start, both being a "class" younger than Payton. My guess is there's more upside with the even younger guys coming in like Cheadle, Wingo Sherrils. Further, you have JUCO Dennis coming in and had Junior Johnson already. That's probably 6 or 7 guys ahead of him when talking about seeing the field. Again, like him and like more depth, but reality is he wasn't going to see the field either.

Don't think Logan was ahead of him on the chart, maybe Winston either, as for guessed at "upgrading"
of the DB's, well, I'm from Mo. I will believe it when I see it.

Maybe Cheadle and Wingo will be another EJ type set of corners and Tavon Ross will be Willmo like, but it ain't happened yet.

I hear ya on just show me. Even if 1 turns out to be a bust, I just don't think all of them will be busts between Cheadle/Wingo/Sherrills. Don't know much about Stribling.

True enough about Logan and Winston. They were listed at a different position so hard to say where they had fit in line in comparison to Osborne.
