Pay for Play under Calipari
Memphis, TN -- The uncle of former Memphis Tigers basketball player Pierre Henderson-Niles has contacted the NCAA and reported a pay-for-play arrangement he says he had with the University of Memphis coaching staff.
According to Stephen Saine, he had the arrangement during Henderson-Niles' last season of high school and first three seasons at the University of Memphis.
The NCAA has a statute of limitation of four years for most violations but makes exceptions for cases where there is a pattern of willful violations.
Saine spoke with the NCAA earlier this week.
John Calipari was the Tigers head coach at the time the arrangement is alleged to have taken place. Henderson-Niles played at Memphis from 2006-10. He played his final season under current coach Josh Pastner who is not implicated.
According to Pastner and University of Memphis media relations staff, the NCAA has not been in contact with the University regarding the matter.
Attempts to reach Calipari were unsuccessful.

Basketball is so much worse in cheating. I know couple stories from guys recruited awhile back.

it would be a great time for a drama right now.
it can't be us- we definitely fulfilled our % of drama for the whole sec the past few years.
cal (and ky) works for me.

Why the hell go to the NCAA years after the fact? Makes zero sense to me - why do squeelers want to rat folks out years later?

No one pays a 3* recruit. Idiot's just looking for some money for a story.

Tiger High would.
We already know a player cheated on his entrance exam under Cal, add cash payments and you have a slightly more successful Eddie Sutton.

Memphis was never a blue blood, but they sure as hell wouldn't be paying a 3*.
I'm sure it happens at places like Auburn, though.

On the Memphis radio this morning it was reported that Niles has said he does not know what his Uncle is talking about and has not talked to him in 6 months.
Uncle maybe looking for some money. But I am sure JC is the root of all evil.

They're a dime a dozen and the kid was from Memphis and called Memphis his dream school.
I'm not a Cal apologist. I don't think he's clean by any means, but this story is absurd. There's a reason that the NCAA isn't even bothering with it.
