Let the counties decide, but it's certainly a pain in the arse if you live in a dry county and huge loss of revenue for the state.
We basically paid for all of Missouri's roads south of I-70 with tax revenue from their booze sales along the state border.

I think I need to hear from our esteemed colleague, the right honorable Razorback Reverend, before I weigh in on this matter. But I'm inclined to think it should be county-by-county as it is now.
I really wouldn't have a problem if they came up with a legitimate casino gambling proposal as opposed to the snake oil salesman proposals they generally drum up every few years.

All you have to do is get the signatures to get it on the ballot and have it voted on.
There are towns/county in this state that sales alcohol on Sunday.

The state should run casinos, like they run the lottery. Every proposal we get is from some out of state outfit that wants all of the proceeds.
I'd support casinos in Hot Springs with the proceeds going toward education or economic development elsewhere.

As I might have said before... I have no problem with alcohol, I do however have a problem with the abuse thereof that leads to medical problems paid by the state taxes, rehab paid by the same, incarnation paid by the same, death by driving alcoholic idiots, domestic... etc.
And yes, I do believe we should always let the people decide in the counties or immediate areas. If someone is visiting the county, bring it with ya if ya want it.
The way the proposal is, if the entire area of LR and larger census ran areas of the state vote pro... there are no recourses for the local towns/counties. Popular vote of the metros take the rights away from the locals.

The Quapaw nation just bought a bunch of land in Little Rock, they will probably build a casino on it. They can do whatever they want with the land regardless of whether the state approves casinos.

I live in Conway and its a somewhat heated topic around here. All the old politicians/Baptist types are dying off so the stance against it isn't as strong from a bible thumper standpoint but the surrounding wet counties pour tons of money into keeping us dry. It really does suck when I buy a beer at a restaurant here in town and I'm paying tax on my beer twice.

Do you know where this Quapaw nation land is located?
With all of the Injun casinos that are literally steps across the state line, I don't understand why Arkansas doesn't have a few state casinos just to keep the money in-state.
Hot Springs has other attractions, so a few casinos would really make it a vacation destination. Plus, we'd get money from Texas.

It's a lot tougher to get an Indian casino into a state that doesn't allow that type of gambling already. A legal argument would have to be made that the gambling at Oaklawn is equivalent to what an Indian casino would allow. And even if that was accepted, they would still have to work out an agreement with the state. I don't see any way that the current legislature would permit that to happen.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the Quapaws have a hell of an uphill climb to get a casino into Arkansas.

When I used to make beer runs to the next county over, the ditches the entire way back were lined with empty beer cans.
