is how ridiculous American football at all levels is in regards to scoring celebrations.

Watch the World Cup and you see the entire team running on the field to celebrate, dog piles, guys ripping their shirts off and running around the field and sliding. And you know what? Nobody cares. It's fun, it's harmless, it's simply celebrating success.

They don't have refs immediately coming over telling them to break it up or penalizing them for it. They just let them and the fans have their minute or so to enjoy it.

Makes you realize how silly our rules on celebrations are in organized football. Why are we punishing guys for being excited about success? Let them be excited. Let the fans enjoy it. Let them celebrate a little bit without acting like we have to keep the players "in line" by penalizing the team almost immediately.

I agree. As long as there isn't excessive taunting or delay of game (which would be hard since there's a commercial break after touchdowns) I don't see why players can't celebrate. It's supposed to be fun

I don't have a problem with a reasonable amount of celebration but the thugs in our league like to taunt and in general participate in unsportsmanlike conduct making need for the rules we have. Personally I feel there is nothing to celebrate until the game is won. And even in a loss the team effort, assuming it was respectable, should be celebrated.

When your team scores an average of one goal per month, you should be allowed to celebrate.

(That's the high scoring teams)

Rules is spot on...let the soccer players have their little tickle piles...it's not like it happens more than once a game, twice if you're really lucky.

The flopping, though. I can't. It's worse than the NBA.

Taunting is childish and immature, but it isn't "thug".

A thug is violent. Getting in somebody's face after a big hit or a touchdown might be mean and hurt someone's precious feelings, but let's not get overly dramatic here.

Bingo...there's a distinct difference in a team celebrating, piling up, hugging, etc. and the kind of stupid dances and "look at me" preplanned routines that were going on in football. Even though the majority of the world is much poorer than the U.S.....our sports stars can out ghetto anybody.

WTF

Please clarify which of those were "ghetto."

Crappy 80 dances like the worm? Not exactly ghetto. Fake kayaking? Not exactly ghetto. Pulling out a cell phone? Not sure how that's ghetto. Sharpie? Don't think that's really associated with ghetto. Fake putting? Opposite of ghetto. Fake proposal? Don't think that market is cornered by the ghetto. Grabbing Pom poms? Might get you shot in the ghetto. Mooning a crowd? Immature and arguably low class so might fit ghetto.

And please let me know how those celebrations out-ghetto the ones in the below link. You seem to think props, group celebrations, etc, only occur in the NFL. That's a video of one league over the last five years or so. Guess all those guys are ghetto too and they should have anti celebration rules?

Some of those would qualify.

But we need a standard definition. When I say "ghetto" I'm talking about shite that isn't a celebration...but some "look at me" stunt. Its a gold tooth, $1,000 rims on a $400 Sentra, your pants hanging off your arse, a 5* D1 RB wanting to look like a playa and carrying a handgun on campus....

..its also Deion high stepping from the 10, that idiot with the sharpie...and the other shite on my link.

GETT O

Score your TD, hug and chest bump your buddies, fist pump....and then get the frick off the field and start thinking about how you're going to do it again.

I don't think it's a young/old thing man. I think it's a suburban white kids/hispanic americans vs the rest of America type thing.

In other words, I'm relatively young and I think soccer sucks.

Yea. The World Cup is neat and all but I only enjoy it because I want the US to win it and then use the trophy as a paper weight during the Super Bowl and mix the globe's collective tears into the teams' gatorade.
