I'm in town for a wedding at Lookout Mountain tomorrow afternoon. My parents and I were waiting to visit some of the local attractions for a few hours tomorrow and Sunday. The incline railway looked cool. Already want to drive around Lookout Mountain and Covenant College as well. Cool bars and restaurants around Downtown Chattanooga too if y'all have suggestions. No college bars.

There's the standard Rock City and Ruby Falls. Park Point if you or your parents are into Civil War history. The Aquarium is pretty neat.

The Terminal is a good place to eat. Shuford's Smokehouse is worth it just for the banana pudding.

Chattanooga is so full of history, it would be hard to decide what to suggest, without knowing a little more about your interests.

so many things happened down by the river, and are now almost forgotten. It was a hell of an important place. Ross Landing, Mocassin Bend, The Suck, etc..

The best thing you can do is call my number and let me take you out and get you and your wife drunk. Chattanooga is awesome. I love it here.

Restaurant:
Urban Stack

Coffee:
Rembrandt's in the Art District

After Bar:
Pickle Barrel

It'll be a good night.

How far away is this. Both my Mom and I love history. Never heard of it.
And for the last response. No wife. Just drove up by myself for a family wedding. And living 17 hours from my Mom, its a great chance to visit things in a city we have done nothing more than drive through, and vist each other.
Eta: also stuff tomorrow needs to take 3 hours or less, or close to it.

Or, even a nice 4-5 hour roundtrip through the mountains on Sunday for the views would be cool, if y'all have ideas.

4-5 hour round trips aren't Chattanooga's thing, because the city is so scenic that you can reach whatever you'd drive that far for in about 20 minutes. You may be interested in the Southern Belle cruise or something like that. If I were you though I would spend a lot of time in the art district and fall in love with Chattanooga. With being interested in history you may want to do Civil War stuff. I grew up in the battlefield so I'm not as inclined to do that if I only had 1 day.

With that being said, I love the chickamauga battlefield (because I grew up there.) Go up Wilder's tower and remember it forever.

I hate the best hamburger I've ever had, by far, from a shop downtown called Main Street meats. It's on Main Street, of course. You owe it to yourself to go there.

What is this like? About how long is it? I mentioned the driving because a good scenic drive would work too. Only hills I get at home are driving up a levee.

Southerne Belle is a faire boat that chugs down the river while serving drinks and seeing pretty sites. It's kind of a staple for Chattanoogans who have done it so much that they don't acknowledge it anymore but it is fantastic fun and should be seen as one of the top 3 things to do on the water in this city.

Is it like a 2-3 hour trip? Think I have done something just south of Richmond on the James.
But that does sound cool. They have pictures of it in the elevator of the hotel.

Try to remember, the history of Chattanooga didn't start at The Civil War.

If you had time this is a blast, and just up the
road from Chattanooga.

That's such a pretty part of the Battlefield. I grew up in the battlefield in Chickamauga and would ride bikes to the tower with my next door neighbors. Good memories.

Yeah, it was really pretty. We spent an entire day just going through the battlefield.

I can see why. Beautiful area. I could really see myself living here. Drove over a large area of Lookout Mountain(ready for the flat land of SE LA). Went to Park Point and took some photos. Got there just in time for the park rangers speech. Went to the battlefield from there. Wedding reception was at The Grandview next to Rock City. I knew very little of the areas importance to the Civil War. Learned a lot which was really cool. Next time I drive through to VA I'm spending another day to see more.
