I'll be staying in either Savanah or on Tybee july 7th and 8th... really looking forward to doing a little surf/pier fishing. Which would be the best location...and what would be the best targeted species

Save your $ and try and get a boat in Bahamas if you can.

I just got into surf fishing recently down here in Pensacola area. I fish for Pompano and Spanish here but I don't know a lot about that area in order to help or what type of fish they do from surf/pier. I would suggest at least 9 foot rod and make sure you pick up some pvc pipe to put your rod up off the beach.

Here is the locations I was able to gather
1. The pier at Tybee
2. Off the beach at the South end of Tybee where Tybee Creek (also known as Back River to the locals) comes into the ocean.
3. The public fishing pier on Back River.
4. The public fishing dock at Lazaretto Creek on Highway 80 just before Tybee
5. The public fishing pier on the Skidaway Island Causeway.

The Northern beaches of Tybee has a very good whiting, bluefish and shark bite.

I guess those are pretty common according to the surf fishing website for that area.

Hope that helps

How much trouble would it be getting the fish back to the states?

If they're not biting on one side of the pier. Try "targeting" the other side. Or walking down a little.

Sorry.

Seriously though, I don't there's much targeting happening on a pier or a beach. I think you're just suppose to buy a cheap rod/reel, a bucket, and some frozen bait...........and then reel in whatever stingrays and trash fish happens to bite on it.

Not sure about fishing Tybee, but coastal Georgia fishing is coastal Georgia fishing. Especially in July. First the beach. Tossing a small piece of shrimp or squid out into the surf will produce the usual suspects. Small shark and whiting. Whiting are excellent table fare and have no size or creel limit. But truthfully, there's no need to keep any under 10" as they wont produce much meat. Its hard to beat fried whiting and cheese grits. If youre able to find some mud minnows, try those as well in the surf. Either fish them on the bottom or under a float and you stand a good chance of hooking a speckled trout as they're spawning on area beaches this time of year. You also might catch Spanish, jacks, ladyfish and bluefish which are all a blast on light tackle. Live bait opens a whole new world when fishing from the beach.

Ive never been to the Tybee pier, but the one on Jekyll has some serious current mid tide. I always tell people to fish just before and after low/high tide. And theres no need to try to prove your manhood by showing everyone how far you can chunk a piece of bait. Fish like structure. Drop your bait as close to the pilings as you can.

One last thing. Dont forget to wear some t-shirt/hat combo of Costa del Mar/Salt Life/Guy Harvey/Yeti cooler. This lets the fish and other people know that you are professional fish slayer and you mean business.

Tight lines!

1. Men. End of pier not that big. bumping constantly into somebody. most common tourist fish spot because theres bars on pier. and never been a big fan of all the small sharks the catch and draw close to the major swim area

2. That spot is called alley 3 b y locals. fishable, but is the main back river entry for boats/kayaks . so there's that

3.not a bad spot when tide coming in. super strong current and boatv ski do traffic

4, that spot at lazaretto is where all the local shrimp boats dock. Never had luck there. always figured because of all the shite they dump/falls off the boats there

5. Don't know. Just go to ft.Pulaski. its where most action is. Wander off the bridge down the bank some with a chair and beer. hit around the bridgr for sheep maybe. reds, whiting and whatever else

eta and wtf ever edawg tells you . he's obviously on point with it. whatevr I know is thru osmosis
