I don't mind him personally. Seen him at games before, and talked with him. He loves South Carolina and his passion for the team is not in question.

However, I cannot stand to listen to games on the radio because of him. I also hate most Youtube highlights because they ALL use the radio broadcast.

Is it just me?

I'm OK with Ellis...he does leave out important play-by-play info during possessions and doesn't do a good enough job of explaining the good/bad things that happen due to his emotions. Luckily USC plays most games on the TV these days, so if I'm not at a game (which I listen to Todd/Tommy on my mp3 player as I watch), I can watch the TV while listening to Todd & Tommy so I don't get confused as to what's happening on the field too often these days...

The one that usually aggravates me is Suggs: when he speaks he always fumbles over what he's trying to say which has always bugged me. A lot of times Ellis will cut Suggs off and proceed with the PxP because Suggs can't put the period on the end of it, but from what I've read in the past Suggs has always cut into the PxP guy whoever it has been, so i don't mind that....

He needs to read up on great broadcasters, even some "homers" were/are.

One thing that drives me nuts is Todd not telling us where the ball is spotted after each play. Terrible oversight.

Vin Scully, the voice of the LA Dodgers for six decades and considered by many to be the best play-by-play announcer of all time said it best:

"The number one rule is to always broadcast the ball." Todd doesn't know this. They don't come any nicer but, Todd, broadcast the ball.

Same here, also can't stand Andy Demetra on the radio for baseball games either.

Todd Ellis is an incredibly nice person. They simply do not come any more genuine, any better hearted.

I know a lot of people are not crazy about his play by play methodology - most of them are those that grew-up listening to Bob Fulton, which is a tough act to follow. But Todd is always improving, and he does love his Gamecocks and his fans. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his loyalty and passion towards the Gamecocks. He's a class act and we're lucky to have him - a treasure really. Now, are there some areas where he could improve, sure there are. And he will, be patient.

Tommy Suggs is another extremely nice guy - but Tommy is getting up there in years. He's a couple two or three years older than me and I've been around him, from time to time, for much of the past thirty five years. He too is just as passionate and loyal to our Gamecocks, and rightfully so. Tommy gives a lot of money to the school as well, and that has helped him to maintain his position as our color man for football games.

There used to be this idea, when Mike McGee originally hired Todd to replace Charlie Mac as our play-by-play guy, (Charlie McAlexander did play-by-play from like 95-2003 when Bob retired), that when Suggs retired, which we all thought was imminent at the time, Todd would move over and become the color guy and Mike Morgan would do play-by-play. But Morgan betrayed us, shite in his own bed, and was rightfully and summarily dismissed from his duties and run the frick out of town. Personally, I wish they had tarred and feathered him before doing so. He was the most destructive, back stabbing, two faced piece of shite that has ever worked for us and he's lucky the University did not make a bigger deal out of it than they did at the time because, as far as what he did IMHO, he should have been ostracized and IMHO, we should never, not even now, be allowing him to call any of our games for any network. Double frick Mike Morgan. A pox be upon that scum bag.

Andy Demitra - he's doing just fine IMHO. He has a solid delivery and he is as loyal and trustworthy as they come. He and Moody work well together.

We have to understand. Play by play guys have unparalleled access to the programs, the players and coaches. Loyalty and trust and honor are nearly, if not moreso, as important as they play by play ability. You can't just hire any old person to sit in the booth and call the games and expect them to be loyal to the program. Loose lips sink ships and far too many play callers come from liberal schools of thought in that regard, where they feel it their duty to report scandalous, or whatever, incidents or, worse yet, in Morgan's case, feel the need to spread discontent in a destructive manner behind the scenes. In Morgan's case he made everything personal and thought he was bigger than he actually was. Morgan was loyal to no one. Not his friends, not his employer(s), not his fans and certainly not the coaches and players. He's a total POS scum bag IMHO. Morgan would look you in the eye and smile, all the while talking behind your back and he did that with anyone and everyone he came in contact with.

So back to Todd, Tommy and Andy. We're lucky to have them. They do us no harm and, in fact, they only do us good. We need to keep them around and allow them to grow with us as the years go by.

Who knows how it will go when Tommy finally decides to step down. Todd will still probably move over and do color. Hopefully we'll find someone from within the program, the family, to do the play by play that will be here for forty or more years. But until that day comes I'm fine with these gentlemen that we're blessed to have.

Just be thankful that slimy ball of puss Mike Morgan is gone. We would not be where we are today were he still around. He tried everything in his power to undercut Ellis who, as we expect from Todd, handled the Morgan thing with dignity and class. (Not to mention what Morgan did to our basketball program under Horn.) And for those that liked Morgan as a baseball play-by-play guy, just remember, we never won a national championship while he was in the booth and even still, whenever he calls our games for ESPN these days, we typically lose those games. I saw it tweeted one time as "the Mike Morgan Jinx" and I cringe when I see him calling one of our baseball games on ESPN. They guy reeks bad karma. Piss on Mike Morgan.

Just imagine how bad it was that not only did our program can the guy immediately and without any warning and without ever wanting to discuss it again ... but 107.5 The Game and Clear Channel (at the time), who rarely if ever cans anyone because of their size and Human Resource issues, but Clear Channel and 107.5 The Game canned his sorry arse the moment he got back to the station that afternoon.

What really ticks me off is how some of our local media people still suck-up to him, like Phil Kornblut for instance. It's an illustration of how those blood suckers think. Sports journalists are leeches with no honor and very little integrity, well, at least not loyalty and integrity as most of us would know it.

Honestly, whenever I hear the name Mike Morgan, or see his name typed anywhere, the first image that comes to my mind is of ... (for those familiar with Sin City)

Todd has a very prominent voice which for radio purposes is a very good trait. What stands out to me is the Mizzou game last year where he basically took over the broadcast. His co anchor, Tommy Moody, who I am addicted to listening to in the mornings on 107.5 was not able to contribute like he should. Given that Todd's profession is a lawyer and Tommy's profession is as a host on a radio show I would prefer his input more than Todd's.

Rooster, you may be my favorite poster on any board. And you are right about Todd. Nobody loves the garnet and black more.

I don't care about a whole lot of improvement. Just tell me where the damned ball is and how much time is left on the clock on each play.

Rooster is pretty awesome. Very well Informed, more so than I ever could be.

And to boot he will drop a boom every now and then.

I've always liked Andy Demetra btw. Don't get the hate for him.

I've heard allusions to the Mike Morgan affair, but since I haven't lived in Columbia in close to 10 years, I am unfamiliar with the details.

What did he do, specifically, that got him fired? Aside from the general douchebaggery. Rooster, you mention a particular afternoon. What's the story on that?
