I work in Nielsen Research so I did a quick query the ratings for various college sports events in 2013 just to see how popular college baseball is.

The highest rated broadcast for any college baseball broadcast in 2013 was UCLA vs. North Carolina, Game 14 of the College World Series with a 0.51 rating. That was the same rating the 2nd round of the Women's NCAA Tourament got on ESPN2 on March 25, 2013. A 2nd Round Men's NIT Game between Stanford and Alabama drew better than that at 0.62.

Regional Coverage for regular season Women's Basketball did the same rating as UCLA vs. LSU in the College World Series - 0.23. And that couldn't beat the 0.25 posted by Middle Tennessee and St. Mary's in an NCAA tournament play-in game on TruTV, a network a lot of people don't even have.

College Baseball just isn't popular.

I think most people would admit that the reason they like it is that their team is good at it + baseball is extremely popular in the south. It's not an extremely exciting product especially with the dead bats.

It is sort of like college hockey I guess.

That's actually a table, not a chart.
Carry on.

I'm very into baseball however I can't watch it on TV. I coach my boys and it's my favorite game for them to play but I just can't watch it unless I am on the field helping out.

You're using quite possibly the worst year to make your case.

Look up 2009's rating

Well it could be that college baseball got very little TV time compared to football or basketball. That will change starting this year.

So we should revisit this after next season.

Yeah, that's a big part of it too. It is still a pain in the arse to catch the games.

Although my statement was aimed towards college baseball. Not baseball in general.

My database doesn't go back that far.. December 28 2009 is as far back as I can go

2010 CWS Final South Carolina vs. UCLA did a 0.6 rating

I think college hockey is even a little more niche than college baseball. They are similar in that the very best talent rarely plays in college though

And also how the popularity is heavily focused in one or two regions of the country obviously

Go back and update when the bats weren't dead. You picked the dead bat era for your study, so the results are misleading. Check from mid 90s to 2010.

That's why I always laugh when people call it the "big 3"

Football is king, basketball is prince, and nothing else matters the least little bit.

You mean go back further when College baseball was televised even less?

Apparently some people don't understand what a Neilson rating actually is.

And this weak CWS field isnt going to help that.

I want to see the sport grow and I know Im not the only one.

That's why I honestly wanted every underdog to win. I want like 5k fans in Omaha so the NCAA feels and sees it.

Yeah, but it seemed like the best comparison.

are you saying you want the NCAA to throw games that favor a team like LSU that travels well when they don't deserve to be there?

A sport doesn't grow like that...

I never understood that either. I mean Arky fans don't pretend track and field is popular. Bama gymnastics. The boogs swimming and diving. Baseball blows. It is a boring arse sport.

Yeah it's definitely the closest. They're in a tier by themselves as far as popularity, somewhere below basketball but way above all the other sports
