TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | If there is a debate about which quarterback gives Alabama the best chance to win this fall, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher isn't seeing it.

Fisher, a former offensive coordinator under Alabama head coach Nick Saban at LSU (2000-06), believes his former signal caller and new Alabama transfer Jacob Coker not only gives the Crimson Tide the best chance to win in 2014, he's the most gifted quarterback Saban's staff has had since arriving in Tuscaloosa seven years ago.

"Including what they've had, he's much more talented than anything they've had," Fisher said in a sit-down interview with the TideSports.com last week. "I don't mean to discredit the previous guys, they were all great. But this guy is extremely talented. Arm and mind."

Fisher's eye for talent and his ability to groom quarterbacks has been proven. He groomed three quarterbacks who have become first-round NFL draft choices in the past seven years: Jamarcus Russell (No. 1 overall in 2007) at LSU and Christian Ponder (No. 12 overall 2011) and EJ Manuel (No. 12 overall 2013) at FSU. Fisher has a sure-fire fourth once current FSU quarterback Jameis Winston turns pro, which could happen as soon as 2015.

Coker may have the arm and mind. But no way is he the high character guy Jimbo has at QB now.

He has a ton of potential, but can he transfer that into results in high pressure situations. We will all have to wait and see.

No he didn't. FSU fans said James was easily the better QB two springs ago...hence why he started fall camp as the starter. Ir was the other stuff is why he took time to name him the starter.

Coker is the Heisman favorite. Print the t-shirts. Spend the proceeds on crootin', muddin' and cousin f***in'.

We have to wait and see how Coker will do, but now Duke Williams and Leonard Fournette, well that's DIFFERENT.

The SEC should be worried. We have never had a guy like this at QB before. We could have a team to be reckoned with.

IF,and that is an IF he can live up to the hype, the race for the SEC West is over. Right now.
If he is merely competent, Alabama will still be a force to be reckoned with. But a QB with that kind of ability playing at a high level, with all the weapons Bama has on O....

Agreed 100%. And if he lives up to it, Bama will actually call out the Seattle Seahawks and beat them like a rented mule. Oh, and if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

His highlight video is underwhelming at best.

You are totally FOS. It's common knowledge that the competition for QB was dead even up until game time of their opener (actually the asst. coaches were leaning toward Coker). Coach Fisher made the decision and the rest is history.

He won't get the luxury of playing against ACC defenses like Jobu.

I'm expecting us to miss AJ at key times for sure and I don't expect Coker to be our football saviour but, I think he will have the skills to run Saban's/Kiffen's offense efficiently.

Coker would have been 3rd string at FSU had Trickett stayed.

This is your idea of Fisher calling him just a "good player"?...really?
