Kirby Smart or bust?

I had a long conversation with a complete stranger yesterday after he saw my Auburn shirt and decided that the Lowes parking lot would be a good place for a football conversation. Long story short, we got on the subject of Nick Saban's replacement and he told me that "Kirby Smart will be just as good as Nick because defense wins championships." 
So what do you think? Would you Alabama fans be happy with Smart taking the reins after Saban retires or goes to Texas?

He is in line to take over or he wouldn't still be there, IMO.
Or, he just has unrealistic expectations for what a first head coaching job should be.

I mean, he's had HC offers and he's still here, so he obviously believes he has a chance at becoming HC when Saban leaves.

There is a higher probability that Malzahn would go to Texas than Saban at this point. And for the record, I'd put the odds of Malzahn ending up at Texas at 1/100000 chance.

I thought that having the #1 recruiting class in the country every year is what wins championships. Can Smart do that??
