Why are most churches so segregated?

I've seen stats that say 93-95% of churches in America are not racially diverse (racially diverse meaning that 20% or more of the congregation is a different race than the majority).

Some have argued that styles of worship are to blame.

Even weirder is the lack of diversity on church staffs. Imagine a black pastor being hired by a "white" church.

America and its pseudo-tolerance.

That being said, my church is predominantly white with only one staff member (white guy) but we do have a few black folks that are involved. It's still a pretty vanilla group of folks though.

DISCLAIMER: I live in the Mississippi Delta and people are sort of different here than they are in other parts of the country. Whites and blacks get along for the most part but the chasm is so deep culturally that true biracial relationships can be a challenge. I'll fight you if you disagree. Also to be noted, I have a black friend. Possibly two. I'd have to ask to make sure.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean that it's wrong. One of the only places that I've ever hard the N-word uttered was in a Baptist church.

I've never been to a bigoted church. I've been to several all over the south.

This is a perfect example of painting with a WIDE BRUSH.

People choose a church, which means they go where they are comfortable. How often do you go and hang out at Davis wade stadium or Humphrey coliseum during games just for shites and giggles?

Real question, why does everything have to be diverse for it to be good?

People tend to group with other people they see as similar to themselves. I've always wanted to go to a "black" church and will one of these days.

eta: The church I attend is lily white. There's maybe 4 blacks out of close to 500 members.

So you heard the nword and you conclude that churches are the place of bigotry. Good stuff. Tell me more.

Clearly yours is. You people get so upset when someone doesn't like your sky daddy houses.

It has nothing to do with that. Your labeling people who attend church as bigots and painting it with a wide brush as to assume this if this is some type of condoned behavior. I have never in 33 years been to a church and had a preacher speak at like a bigot or condone it. It makes me sick to even fathom it. You are wrong and you got called out for it. It's a false statement.

I can't say I have ever seen that, but I do know of a black church that had a white pastor.

But for the most part, people group themselves as they feel comfortable and with people where they feel like there are common bonds.

It isn't just churches. Most neighborhoods are racially segregated to an extent. Yes you may have one or two black families in a majority white neighborhood, but it is rare to find anything close to a 50/50 split.

Who's upset? You are the one who is railing on churches being so segregated. The same could be said for black churches, or have you so conveniently forgotten nobama's?

Did I specify white churches? I feel the same about all of them.

Um, since you said the only time you heard the "n-word" was in a church...AND, since you deem that term to be bad and that blacks don't use the word with racist overtones, which type of church would that be, then?

I post when I have downtime. Sometimes I go a week with only a couple of posts. I've also been on here a hell of a lot longer than you.

I couldn't care less about you making broad generalizations. It doesn't bother me in the least. It shouldn't bother you either.
