According to an article in USA Today, the "nationalization" of all the refs is going to be on the table for consideration once the Big 5, new college football division is created. According to one unnamed A.D. they are looking at all the complaints at bowl games about how different conferences' refs call the games differently. Game calling uniformity is the goal according to this A.D. Should make for interesting discussions in bama's SEC league office.

Does this mean Alabama will finally have a penalty called against them?

I was wondering when the whine about Alabama was coming, and last line did not disappoint.

No it won't. Ole Miss and Alabama will continue to dominate L.D.U. with or without the refs in their back pockets.

They can "nationalize" it all they want but it's not going to make much of a difference until the NCAA takes a realistic look at the rule book (and rights some of the bullshite they've thrown in there in the last decade) and they work on infusing the profession with new blood. The good crews are stretched thin due to scheduling and demand.

This "bullshite" of which you whine is the responsibility of the HC's and AD's since they make the rules. What "bullshite" would you have them address?

It takes a MINIMUM 5 years to develop a good HS official into a Div 1 FBS college official. Do tell everyone how you would infuse this "new blood" in a manner different than the current protocol.

The "national" conversation has been going on for 5+ years. Conferences won't give up control and scheduling outside an official's region is extremely difficult. Let's say someone living in Spokane, WA gets scheduled to work a game in Miami, FL and he has to decline the game because he can't get the extra time off work for travel.
How will "Nationalization" solve those problems?

Look for Penn Wagers, John Bible, and Randy Christal to be unemployed if this happens.

A larger push towards subjective rules that are easily flubbed because of human error? I don't blame the officials, but I do blame the rules committee for trying to create these rules under the guise of player safety and making it more difficult for officials to simply officiate.

Better pay and more incentive/benefits? Certainly better scheduling. I've known folks to not want to get into higher levels of officiating for some of those reasons. You probably see it more in basketball then you do football because of the frequency of games but officials tend to be better officials when they're fresh.

Makes entirely too much sense to be implemented. Anyone who watched the end of the LSU-Penn State bowl game or the end of the Arizona State-Wisconsin game knows this is long over due.

Pac 12 refs...
