Pursuit angles and tackling

We all know under Dooley none of this was worth a shite but even last year it wasn't very good. I'm starting this thread to bitch and moan but pursuit angles were one of the first things we mastered in high school football and if we re terrible at them again this year I will probably break several TVs
It's a pet pieve of mine and it truly infuriates me

I will join you in agreement. It makes me so fricking mad. It's one thing for someone to be faster, but poor angles make me mad.
I will stand with you and break TVs.

LaDarrell McNeil, I'm looking at you.

As frustrating as he was last year, he made the Freshman All-SEC team as a true frosh in 2012 so you gotta hope it was the proverbial 'sophomore slump' and he'll pull out of it. Even his stats last year were pretty good. It's just so frustrating as it seems he gets caught out of position and/or taking a bad angle way too much.
It was also a team problem under Dooley.

Pursuit angles and tackling
Lost us a few games last year.
IMO, Jancek is going to have to really earn his keep over the next 2 years or we may be in trouble on the defensive side of the ball. I'm not saying bad tackling and bad angles are 100% on him but his guys need to show improvement this year. To his credit, last years defense gave up 500 yards less than 2012. Then again 2012 was the year of the Sunseri.

Don't forget, last year's team had to play against Oregon and Auburn...which both put up some major yards against pretty much everyone they played. 2012's defense gave up over 700 yards to Troy and 450 to Mississippi State.
Sure, there were problems with the defense last year...but they were on an entirely different plane than the 2012 team. Could you imagine what the Sunseri defense would have given up with last year's schedule?

Good point. Not to lump them with AU & OR but Missouri did us no favors either.
Nice to see you post on here Max
You wouldn't happen to be the same madmax that posts on Vandy Mania would you?

No doubt and even though I'm the one who started this thread it's important to differentiate between bad angles and our just plain being slow

Tackling and pursuit angles are some of the few things that I think are totally laid at the feet of coaching so I would blame Jancek if it doesn't improve

I am actually his evil twin.

If you want an example of how speed impacts pursuit angles...go back and look at Rocket Ismail's TD against UT back in '90.
I am interested to see how much better our coaching gets when our speed gets better.
