@JamesCrepea: Deep South's Oldest Rivalry may move up on calendar LINK

"As we look at our season ticket sales, having those games at the end to have a great end of the season game, we'll continue to look at that and see if there's a way that would be a win-win for everybody involved," Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said. "But right now we're committed to playing just like we have, the Georgia game at home or away, then a non-conference game, then Alabama home or away. I think there's merit to taking a look at that down the road.

"In the perfect world I'd prefer it to be where we'd have another game at that back end, whether it was a Texas A&M or moving Georgia up or whatever it may be, but it's hard to argue with 2013; how it worked out for us having those two games at the end of the year."

Georgia coach Mark Richt hasn't thought a lot about future scheduling and the prospect of facing two of his biggest rivals on the road in two of the final three weeks of every other season.

"Then you're just going to put somebody else in that spot that's pretty good," Richt said of the possibility of moving up the Auburn game. "I don't know if I'd be for that. … I really don't know but I think you're always going to have back-to-back games of great opponents. It's inevitable, I don't know if you can help it."

SEC executive associate commissioner Mark Womack, who is in charge of the league's football scheduling said he has "not yet" heard anything from either Auburn or Georgia about moving the game up.

"We've certainly we put the dates in place for each year's schedule that the institutions have the opportunity to present requests for what they would like us to consider in compiling those things," Womack said. "There will be no guarantees but we would take the inputs of schools on particular requests."
Auburn University president Dr. Jay Gogue hasn't spoken with Jacobs about requesting to play Georgia earlier in the season, but he would support it.

"I wouldn't have a problem with it," Gogue said. "If you could move it up that would be good, makes sense."

This is likely to ease the burden of Auburn having to play both Bama and UGA at home on alternating years.

I'd be okay with playing this game the 1st wknd of Nov but I don't want it played to early in the season. What are your thoughts and preferences

Yea with them making them both home/away I'd rather break it up a little but agree it should still be later in the year. First weekend in November would be ok with me.

I'll always miss back to back one home one away though.

It is ok to move it to midseason. It does not need to be at the end of the season. So long as it is played. Might make the schedule easier.

I wonder if in the future every cross-divisional rivalry could be played on the same weekend? I'm sure ESPN and the SEC Network would pimp it out, whichever date is chosen. Could be a good slate of games that day.

As mentioned above, TSIO is open. I'm sure the networks would appreciate moving the game to that day

Richt ends the season with Georgia Tech, the equivalent of a cupcake game. Of course it's not a big deal to him

Sorry friend. I just skimmed the post. But regardless they do pimp out Rivalry Weekend, Championship Weekend, etc as it is. Why not this?

They will not move WLOCP from halloween weekend.

A lot of the plans for that game are booked a year in advanced. Moving the UF game back further , really takes away from the willingness to be at the islands any closer to thanksgiving.

If they want to swap dates wit South Carolina , that's fine.
But moving auburn to the second or third week in October , getting it that close to WLOCP.

UGA won't go for that.

Would rather so away with the permanent rivalry , if it means playing it annually back to back with WLOCP.

UF and GT are the more important rivalries, no matter how long the DSOR has been going on.

Exactly. We'd be doing TTSIO a favor by providing a competitive game on that day

Is ending the season with GT fun?

Honestly, why does uga continue to play that game? Why not rotate between southern, state, and tech?
