They're powering the lines today. Released a PSA telling you not to touch or climb on them.

$92 Million to take the citizens of and visitors to Atlanta from the Olympic park to the, uh, to the, MLK Center?

Besides being a bad idea in general, if we have to have a street car where would you have run it (keeping a comparable length to what's actually happened) to actually get riders and promote tourism/commerce? How often do you see yourself ever using this?

Look at this sexy thing:

ETA: And, yes, I know, Atlanta sucks.

It's a pointless venture IMO simply because people really don't go to Atlanta and think "Man, I'm at the GA Aquarium and World of Coke and CFB Hall of Fame, now if only I could make it down to the MLK Center..." If you're visiting ATL, it's usually just for a day trip or during a layover and most of the big sites are all clumped around Centennial. If you live in or aorund ATL, well you can just drive to wherever you need to go. I rarely hear of people vacationing to Atlanta and spending multiple days in which the Streetcar becomes useful to move around without paying for parking or having to walk across a pretty hilly, spread out city. Not to mention that now the Braves are gone so there's little reason to go South of Centennial and the Dome unless you go to GA State.

Now, an Athens streetcar...

They built this thing just to say they have another transportation system when the big whigs are touting Atlanta for events and growth. The actual practicality of it is secondary.

All you had to do was look at the destination points to figure this one out.

Now had they planned it to run from the hotel district downtown to the sporting venues ten years ago it might have made a difference.

Georgia at one time had a "scooter rail" which ran from Chattanooga through Rome then onward to Gadsden Alabama which was used and made sense.

I wonder what the city of atlanta would have benefited more from, 92 mill renovation and new 20 year lease on turner field or this abomination.

Yeah, doesn't even address the ongoing maintenance- that's just capital costs. Not sure what that figure would be
