I was just watching College Football Live and they were talking about this, and it's been beaten to death ever since Bielema got here. I'm just curious why people think we should have to beat those two teams every year to be successful.
Posters who believe that Arkansas can't be successful playing the same style as Bama and Lsu, why do you believe this and why do you think it matters?

Yea with Auburn and Alabama doing what they are, it won't matter what style you play.

It's pretty obvious that statement isn't true about LSU so I'm not really sure why they're included in that statement.
We couldn't beat Bama with the best passing game in the SEC either so I don't really think they're going to be our measuring stick.

Because LSU and Bama have better coaching and recruit at a level Arkansas never could regardless of success.
Arkansas' biggest problem is that without Texas and Missouri to feed them players anymore, they cant recruit for dick. There just isnt a lot of talent in Arkansas and what little there is is often swept up by other programs.

I think Arkansas can be successful playing the same style as Bama and LSU. I just think that unless there's some recruiting revolution at Arky, there will always be a significant talent differential which will cause Arkansas to lose against Bama and LSU most years. But that is NOT to say that you can't be successful over-all. Sometimes being the SEC West is a curse because it's so competitive.

Because Missouri has always been a feeder state for Arkansas football.

That's what is so frustrating, it wasn't our offense that lost the game against Lsu last year.
Every SEC national champion except for Auburn 2010 had a great defense, so I don't understand why the offense Arkansas plays is so important. It's our defense that needs to improve.

Yes, because those Bama and LSU defenses are built on the backs of Texas recruits.

He means A&M mostly, but LSU recruits Texas pretty well also. Bama has also snagged some big recruits out of there lately. Arky? Eh.

The thing I find most humorous about that statement, besides the whole LSU part, is that people act like we're supposed to be upset about that. So you're saying I can't beat two schools with my style but I'm good to go against the other 11? I think we'll survive with those odds.

Because Bert had an offense that was basically LSU/Bama North at Wisconsin

Arkansas recruited pretty well in St. Louis, Kansas City and southern Missouri as a whole back in the 80s.
