I ran across this video yesterday and thought the board might enjoy it. I know as well as anyone what Omaha has come to mean in recent years when it comes to Ole Miss, but often times we forget what the players go through on a daily basis.

For those of you not privy to the 2009 OM-UVA series, many people have placed the blame on Evan Button, a second baseman at the time who made an arrant throw with only 5 outs to solidify Ole Miss's ticket to Omaha. This video has interviews with him as well as some of his teammates.

I know many of you will take this thread as an opportunity to flame extensively but oh well. It was made by students and pretty well done. Those of you who have played at a high level and pressure situations can relate. I think everyone could take something from it.

You think that's crushing? How about UGA the year before who was about 6 or 7 outs away from winning the CWS title.

Frick. That still pisses me off to this day.

I think some parts are pretty pathetic to be honest with you. Very telling of an OM baseball mindset that plays into their inability to take the next step. The finger pointing and excuses are almost overwhelming. As was the "sky is falling" mentality that turned a single one-out error with a lead into a blown series. Button's propensity for those excuses are largely what make it endure IMO -- moreso than if he'd just own it.

Holder did the exact same thing in the UVA Super though -- and Rea saved him. Of course, even if he had missed it and we had lost, it would have been different -- because we aren't chasing a white whale when it comes to Omaha.

Well, at least it was just made by students. I am guessing it was a project for a class.

If the university made it....

If this overwhelms you, you should probably seek help.

Tell me. Have you ever fricked up so royally that an entire fanbase wants your head on a stake? How did you handle it? You must be a pretty strong individual to make such a claim.

It didn't. Like I said in the OP, it was made by students.

wouldn't have mattered. LSU and Texas were by far the two best and would have met anyways in the title series

What would be more deflating, losing in the final minute of the peach bowl or the national championship?

You expected us all to have a good cry together because your team has continually been mental midgets when the bright lights come on?

No. But I've screwed up pretty bad plenty of times in my life -- and ownership and penance are a much better approach toward it than denial, anger, and retribution.

Fact is, every time someone lashes out at Evan Button, his approach to the situation can either win them over as people -- or solidify the hate that people have for him. I've never yet heard of him even attempting to get the the former to happen -- and I've been closer to the situation than many.

People won't get "over" it until you get over the hump and into Omaha. But he has the power to prevent people from hating him like they do...

I sort of agree, but fan mindset isn't a big factor for current college players who weren't even there in 2009.

Ole Miss fans are sick of losing big games. The only way some cope is talking and reminiscing about close losses ad nauseum. IMO, it is semi-pathetic and myopic. I felt it was unnecessary, but to each his own. It was worth a watch if you are an Ole Miss fan I guess.

It is just an odd thing to make. These situations happen all of the time.

It was a little crazy that Button had still not gotten over that.

I think you guys have a good shot at not choking and making it to Omaha this year.

Definitely not. Thought it was a good video.

I agree FWIW.

I don't hate him nor blame him.

Its just a video project.

Pretty much any sports video dramatics are dumb when analyzed. Just enjoy it for what it is---documentary of the O.M.A.H.A. phenomenon.

Wait, if you win the Peach Bowl you get an opportunity to compete for the National Championship? I was unaware of this.

I wouldn't say it's a coping mechanism. It's reality. It happened. It was documented and talked about by some former players, and I thought it was a good way to get their view of the series.

Pathetic may be a little harsh. Frustrating? Hell yes.
