Would you rather watch the Braves in Cobb?

Better for the folks on the North side. Traffic funnels onto 75, 285, & 41. Might make traffic better. 20 mins away for me, so I'm happy.

i don't know why people complain about traffic around turner field. Once you get south of I-20, there is no traffic. For weekday games, there is no backup at any of the turner field exits. Traffic at the new stadium location is already horrendous.

Turner is closer to me, but i'll still probably go to a few games a year at the new cobb stadium if they are able to address the traffic issues.

FWIW, driving downtown is not an enjoyable experience.

285 can be bad. But you don't have to take 285 to get to the new stadium. I plan on going 75 South.

Well the new stadium will obviously benefit you. I'm down near the airport and so getting to turner field is a breeze for me :jump1:

I'm not familiar with the area that the new stadium is going to be. I would assume that the crack heads that take my beer cans while tailgating at the Ted would be less likely in cobb. As far as driving it's six in one half dozen in another to me.

For traffic, you're right. One option won't be better than the other.

For scenery, I don't want to go downtown. There's a reason why I don't want to live downtown. Driving down there is the same, imo.

Turner Field is a beautiful venue to watch a ball game when you look down on that field. Spending money on a new facility to watch a ball game is a good example of how we mismanage money in our society.

^this...im from south georgia so it makes no difference to me as far as traffic goes as I will likely do 1...maybe 2 games a season...but I do think from an outsider (not from atl) perspective the whole thing is silly and a waste of $...Turner is fine...just was their during the rockies series...loved it...

But it would not have been just fine for the next 20 years, without renovation. Which is what the city wanted.

As for the new location, its great for the fanbase, but they better do it right as far as traffic flow/exits to 285/75 or its going to cause some serious issues as that area can be a pain in the arse

For you it's perfect. But for the large majority of the season ticket holders, it's a nightmare. It's not worth the time or effort to get down there during the week which is why attendance is so low. Putting it in the middle of the area with the most season ticket holders will greatly increase revenue overall for the organization which will make this transition worth it.

Its only $300M so we can watch the Braves in a third stadium in twenty years. The politicians of Cobb will gladly borrow that money at the expense of future tax payers.

Where are your priorities?

You guys obviously don't see the big picture and you certainly don't understand the economics here.

Cobb, Marietta, Atlanta, and the state will make so much more money with the Braves playing at the new location than they would at Turner Field.

There's nothing around Turner Field. No other amenities or extracurricular activities. People tailgate, they go to the game, then they go home.

In the new location, there's already easily 30+ bars and restaurants within a 1 mile radius of the new stadium. And I'm sure that will likely double. Not to mention tons of hotels and shops, and entire gigantic shopping mall, like 4 different movie theaters, the Galleria conference center, and White Water amusement park is only about a mile or two north of the location.

This isn't even a reasonable comparison at how much better the game experience will be and how much more money this will make everything and everyone affiliated with the new area.

Not sure it will be any better, but traffic can be shite at Turner. Took my dad to a weekday afternoon game one time.. I could only go south on 75 from the lot we were in. It took an hour just to go to the next exit, turn around, and get back to Turner Field.

So how do you like working for the Cobb County Board of Tourism? Does it pay well?

I live in Cherokee Co. and my company is in Fulton.

I just know that area well and have lots of experience with economics of this sort. I manage a few dozen rental properties, flip a couple homes a year, and am a financial planner/securities broker who trades a lot in REIT's, bonds, and other related equities.

The new Braves location is going to be a money making machine compared to Turner. Just sayin.

I feel like traffic at the new site is already dreadful, and is a ticking time bomb when it comes to games moving there. Add in no way to get even remotely close using MARTA and it's going to be a zoo.

While I understand everyone's traffic concerns, it seems like y'all are all assuming there aren't going to be any road infrastructure upgrades. They aren't going to leave everything the same and just plop a stadium down in the middle of it.

LINK

Traffic should actually improve in the area when games aren't being played. They'll play an estimated 80 something home games with only 50 or some being on a weeknight. Seems like a good trade off, roughly 15% of the year you'll have to deal with a little more traffic congestion while the rest of the year your trip home from work improves.
