LSU's Les Miles says coaches unanimously in favor of early signing period, expects stance to be passed to "next judicial issue."

Only if players who sign early are given the opportunity to back out of the agreement if a coach leaves or gets fired.

If they sign, they're guaranteed 4 yrs. They should have to honor their part of it.

I like it. Enough of this "verbal" commitment shite.

This seems like all the benefit is for the coaches and schools. They don't need protecting.
I don't like it.

They agree to play for a certain coaching staff. I don't think kids should be forced to play for someone they don't have a relationship with.

I hope so. Would be awesome.

DESTIN, Fla. -- Southeastern Conference football coaches are in favor of a post-Thanksgiving signing period, said LSU's Les Miles, who expects the stance to be passed onto the "next judicial issue."
Not so fast, commissioner Mike Slive said. The league opposed a signing period in previous legislations and, though Slive acknowledges that might change, the issue must filter through the system with athletic director and president approval.
"We aren't there yet," Slive said.
The Conference Commissioners Association, which governs signing date, meets in mid-June.
Slive cautions moving the first signing period off early February could alter the recruiting calendar, which most coaches don't want.
"The question is are we going to be willing to make other changes that accompany an early signing date?" Slive said. "I think we need to vet that out and see if the conference wants to change its position. Up to now, the conference has been opposed to it."

What's "eh" about what I said?
There is very limited benefit for players. The upside for coaches is tremendous

To be fair, most coaches who are going to be fired before NSD will more than likely be gone by the first week of December.
It's not like the early signing period would be before the season.

This all day.
There is zero benefit for the athlete on an early signing period.
All it can do is make their lives more difficult.

UGA's entire defensive staff turned over in January. Those kids had the right to look around, as they should have.
I'm not even just talking about coaching changes though. Kids change their minds for all kinds of legitimate reasons in the final month.
Example: Prospect A is hoping for an offer from UGA (or other big school) but UGA is recruiting Prospect B over him. Prospect A commits to smaller school, thinking the big school will not have room. UGA ends up missing on "B", and wants to sign "A". "A" would still like to sign with UGA.
With early signing period: A has already signed with smaller school and will miss out on his desired opportunity.
Current system: Prospect A gets to go to school where he wants.
This legitimately happens all the time.

Coaches pouring the pressure on at an earlier date, during their senior season no less.
