Where do you stand on coach and player sportsmanship/smacktalk

I was rewatching the documentary on "The U" ( the director of that movie looks like the very epitome of a geek) and it really just shed a lot of light on all the garbage they spewed back in the day. Glad that empire went down in glorious flames.

Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is...what is your preference? Do you like teams that smack talk and celebrate until the cows come home?

What about coaching? A guy like Spurrier that puts in a jab every now and then, or the Pete Carroll type that runs up the score in any game he can?

Players should stay humble. Coaches, a bit of a jab every now and again makes for good conversation.

Who doesn't like it when spurrier throws one out?

Spurrier. He's usually the only one with the balls to says what everyone else is thinking. Scoring 50+ in blow out games, to pad stats, makes you look like a douche.

I like players celebrating and smack talking in game. Too bad they get penalized for anything now.

Spurrier is about the perfect coach personality.

Spurrier did that at Florida all the time. He just can't with Carolina.

I would prefer to see players act like they've done it before and just hand the ball to the ref and get ready for the next play. How much more energy might some of these guys have in the 4th quarter if the didn't dance after every play? If they must, smack talk should be heard and not seen.

Between the two, Pete types have nothing to offer off the field. At least Spurrier is likable.

You can add me to that list. Even when he was ripping on Tennessee, I still thought he was a class A douchebag.

I am super old school. The only "talking" should be the scoreboard at the end of the game. That said, I'd run the score up, without trash talking, everytime I could.

I'm just saying if he wants to be obsessed with Alabama all day every year, then play them sometime and satisfy your craving. :wishdunnostillworked: Maybe if he stops worrying about what other coaches say about O schemes, he can focus on not losing to teams like Tennessee

I've never minded coaches running up scores, personally. If it happens to my team, maybe we should stop them. It's football, it's supposed to be a violent game with no remorse. Why has this always been such an issue? I would actually take it as an insult if another team took a knee against my team at the goal-line. What kind of message is that sending? "Yeah, it was fun for a minute, but now we're basically stuffing the short bus riders into the lockers. Let's take a knee and not make them cry in front of all their friends."

Players-Talk all the shite you want and celebrate as much as you want.

Coaches-No in game bullshite. Want to take a jab in the media, fine, in fact, it's encouraged.

He isn't obsessed with Alabama at all. He's made maybe 3 comments about something Alabama related in the last year and a half. And he's never said something really negative. The fact that he gets under your skin so bad for no reason makes you come off as another insecure Bama tard that thinks Alabama is God's gift to the world and they can do no wrong.

The shite talking doesn't bother me, but you better be able to back it up and if you don't be prepared to be called out by fans, media, and other players/coaches.

The only time RUTS bothers me is when it's a top FBS team who schedules some FCS school and leaves their starters in the majority of the game for "style points". If you're another FBS school, especially in conference, that's on you for not fielding a better team to stop it.

Act like you've been there before. Act the same win or lose.

Didn't Spurrier do both?

Correct. Victory formation is not in the playbook. Urban was the same. Comes back to bite both.
