Considering 4 of the last 5 years we would have made the playoffs. Assuming the committee agrees with the AP polls.

If they really pick the 4 "best teams" at the end of the year, we should be in the discussion more years than not.

It's a great time to be Roll Tider.

I'm not so sure about our chances this year, but that 2015 D is going to wreck shite up.

So stay positive crew, and frick the few.

Roll Tide.

They should pick the four best teams, but they won't. Tbey'll be biased and pick conference champions who would get stomped by other teams that didn't win their conference. It's not fair, but they'll do it anyway.

You wont when there are 8 people deciding the top 4 with pressure to keep more than one sec team out of the top 4. If you don't win the sec you will get left out which is complete crap some years. Top 4 should be the top 4 regardless if that team won the conference. conference

I've brought up one scenario before that, while unlikely, shows a glaring flaw in picking conference champions.

These are not my predictions at all, any records are only present for the example.

Alabama 13-0, SEC Champions
Florida State 13-0, ACC Champions
Oklahoma 11-1, Big XII Champions
Wisconsin 12-1, B1G Champions
UCLA 10-3, Pac-12 Champions
LSU 11-1, SEC West Runner Ups

LSU and Wisconsin play each other in week 1. Suppose LSU dominates Wisconsin. Something like 45-7. Not saying that happens at all, just providing an example.

LSU goes on to lose a close game to Alabama, we'll say something like 17-14, but their is a man open in the endzone who drops the game winning TD as time expires.

Alabama, Florida State, and Oklahoma are clearly in.

Now you have three options. LSU, and two conference champions. One of them is a 3 loss team, the other is a team that LSU demolished already.

Would the committee do the right thing and put LSU into the 4 team playoff? I can't think that anyone would believe Wisconsin deserve to be in over LSU after LSU embarrassed them by such a huge margin, and then could they really put a 3 loss team in JUST for winning their conference?

I know what you're saying, but in your specific example here I think LSU would get the nod. As much as the SEC has gotten lauded over the years for its prowess, the B1G has become something of a national punch line.

If your example had LSU waxing a PAC or even a Big-12 team, then I think all bets are off.

With your scenario, no doubt SEC gets 2 teams in. Or ill start a slow jog from Alabama to the committee meeting and whomp some wholesale arse.

Is the committee really only made of 8 people?

If memory serves correctly yes but even if it's a few more, how is 8 or a few more opinions better than hundreds of opinions that made up the bcs poll. They threw the baby out with the bath water.
