Everyone knows don't let Mexican police hold your DL, because they'll seize it and you have to pay to get it back often enough.
American cops are getting just as bad or worse in some areas.
Texas Cops give couple a choice: Give us your cash or we take your baby
ACLU slaps Texas town down with class action suit
Mass. Motel seized out from under owners; made itself a prime target by paying off their mortgage. Tsk tsk.
NYC: Cops trash man's apartment on a warrantless search; take all his money, then drop case.
Mich: IRS agents walk into local grocery and announce they've seized all of the store's funds becuase they might be criminals.
TCU students selling small amounts of MJ get all valuble possessions seized as well; cars, laptops, phones, anything the cops can resell.

All should read this. The second part in particular.
When it comes to forfeiture actions (which I agree are severely abused) surely everyone knows the PD does not make the decision, right? The prosecutor brings the action and a judge signs off on it.
Again, people not found to have violated any law should not have their property taken but blaming the cop is like blaming the price of gasoline on the guy driving the tanker truck.

LEOs do this shite because they know nobody will fight it. If people quit bending over and taking it up the Hershey highway, it'll disappear altogether.
