Does grocery shopping grind anyone else's gears?

I'm generally a pretty easy going guy, but the second I step into a grocery store I develop a burning hatred for every person I see.

Sometimes I think that there is a large conspiracy where the patrons of the store have coordinated their placement and movements such that they maximize the time it takes me to get everything I need.

Kroger, usually. And I go at different times. Some times are worse than others, but I still get annoyed.

I usually go at off peak hours.

Grocery shopping annoys me because 97% of things marketed as healthy are bad. The same percentage of items in a grocery store are useless. And I get unreasonably annoyed at the dumb decisions other shoppers make, kills me when I see carts full of junk.

I enjoy it, cause I see the $$$ stack up when I eat healthy and cheap.

I've noticed that, too. It's like the FDA doesn't exist. I'm a compulsive nutrition and ingredients label reader and I can tell you that the unpronounceable crap that is going into foodstuffs is scary.

Raises hand.

Going to Wal-Mart is depressing as hell.

Yeah, it really is unbelievable.

The FDA is basically an enabler of criminal marketing practices, they could care less about the well being of consumers.

I could go on about food for awhile, I'll spare everyone that rant.

I go when prices are good on meat so I can load up and freeze it. I pretty much only shop the perimeter of the store though. That's where the produce, meat, and dairy live. That's all you really need. Load up on cheap proteins, mostly fish and have tons of veggies and spices on hand.

Thought I was alone in this. I despise going to grocery stores/mart-stores for the reasons you listed.

yea, meat, eggs, fruit, veggies, and bread is pretty much what I try to stick to.

Plus it makes you have to figure out what spices go well together cause you have to get a little creative to mix it up.

Sometimes my results are less than excellent when I try to figure it out though. Luckily I haven't run across a meal that can't be made to taste good with the right herb.

Yes. Happens to me every time I step inside a supermarket. The wait, the people, I don't know what it is, but something in there pisses me off.

I've got a wide array of spices for any need. Just think of spices from regions when trying to mix them up.

Also save all your bones from meat and boil them down for some stock. Makes for an incredible braising liquid. Soups. A little in a tomato sauce...

Try to use every bit I can from everything I buy and it's mostly healthy.

the special herb was pot.

As long as you have pot dingleberrys dipped in aged period blood will taste delicious.
