Just watched him on SportsCenter and he is their primary writer for the World Cup. During his explanation of the Brazilian stadiums and soccer environments he made 2 SEC football references.

A GREAT writer and awesome SEC ambassador. Really nice guy in person too.

Lives in Oxford so I always thought Ole Miss.

I went to Ole Miss and I would see him relaxing at City Grocery's upstairs bar by himself reading on random afternoons enjoying what looked like scotch.

Just an interesting and intelligent dude.

Lost respect for him after that self serving documentary he narrated.

He's a desperately deliberate cliche and so is his writing style. His work is "literary" to semi-retarded sports fans, so there's that.

Also grew up in Oxford. I understand what you are saying and would imagine he has some inclinations to Mizzou but I don't think athletics and "rooting" were a factor in college choice. He went to one of the best journalism schools in the country and now he is a pretty good journalist. I would imagine he gives money to academic funds at Mizzou and not to Ole Miss. If he donates money at all.

He's got a voice that resonates, whether we're talking his literary one or his literal one, LOL.

I read his story about the favelas in Brazil and the sort've feudal justice administered by organized crime years before the World Cup stuff came out. Been a fan ever since.

He's the kind of guy that can talk to you about the finer things in life, but would be just fine with a Natural Light and some Crawfish...

He's always struck me as someone uniquely self aware. Of both where he came from and the outside world. That he's from here, chose to write, and chose sports to write about is for me a true pleasure.

Catching up with what he's done every few months is like reading emails from a friend abroad as they're keeping up with your team's recruiting class online from far away.

His Twitter feed is also excellent.

I remember a couple of weeks ago he was tweeting about cricket and said if anybody needed help understanding the rules to tweet him their number and he'd call. Apparently he called a bunch of folks because next thing you know people were tweeting about Wright Thompson calling them

IMO, he comes off as a bit douchey and cliche and times, but his actual writing of words is solid.

What is your exact issue with Thompson?
