When will gay jokes from student hecklers become unacceptable?

I've heard numerous homosexuality references aimed at opposing players on several different college campuses. Is this now crossing the line? Is this behavior now frowned upon? Is this a problem?

What do you think?

Not frowned upon. It's football. You talk shite and insult in any way, shape, or form. No one should take it seriously.

You called Oscar faggy because he liked Shakespeare in Love better than Die Hard!

on topic, sadly fans are gonna shout all kinds of offensive shite at players. The only thing they can do is ban or throw out the particularly offensive fans.

I feel like it's something that comes with the territory for now, but I'm interested to see how big of a deal it becomes down the road.

I think it's unacceptable now.
The best hecklers are clever, good-natured folks who don't rely upon pejoratives for a "look at me!" effect of eliciting an uncomfortable laugh from their audience.

Heckling Is about the game, not a kid's ethnicity or sexuality.
Of course, there will always exist boorish Neanderthals who wouldn't know good sportsmanship if it reached out and shook hands with em.

Hypothetical situation:

Michael Sam plays right field for a NCAA baseball tournament eligible team that is selected to play in regional at Swayze Field in Oxford.

Does it offend people when they hear others making gay jokes?

If racism is unnaceptable, then so should homophobia and sexism.
