I think UF will be improved but I also think UF has a brutal schedule. They might finish ahead of one of MU or UT but I don't see them finishing ahead of both. I also think there are just so many unknowns this year, I'm finding it hard to nail down the east. Really, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was SC or UGA or MU or UT.

What does MZ bring back as far as numbers?

Seems like a crap shoot this fall with so many variables going into the fall.

I'm going off the top of my head.

Lose QB Franklin...have Mauk. Time will tell. My guess is more big plays with Mauk but more big bad plays as well. With last years experience, don't see much drop off if any.

Lose WR's DGB, Washington and Lucas...had depth there last year so their spots will be filled fine, but what we'll lose is the amount of depth behind the starters. Slight drop off in terms of depth.

Lose RB Josey...used 3 RB's as it is and a 3rd will take his snaps. No drop off at all.

Lose OL Britt (LT) and Copeland (LG)...have decent depth on the line. Don't expect any drop off but I guess it's possible.

Don't think we lost any DT's.

Lose DE's Ealy and Sam...Ray and Golden will match them as starters but like WR's, will be a drop off in depth behind the starters.

Lose DB Gaines (CB)...tons of talent behind him, though most of it is young. Don't think there will be any drop off. There wasn't in the games he missed last year.

The key, as it is for most teams, is staying healthy. Any injuries, particularly at QB, at WR or at DE and it will be a long season.

I just took a look at UT's schedule. That middle part of your schedule is tough. The bookends before your first bye and after your second bye are much easier. Looks like y'all's season will be determined by that middle stretch.

It always comes down to the middle part of the schedule for us.

I agree. I think the East is going to be a huge unknown this year. I wouldn't be surprised if the East. Div champ has multiple div. losses heading into the SECCG.

At this point, I'd give the clear cut edge to USC & UGA preseason. Then after that everything gets more complicated.

Pre-Season I'd go :
Tier 1 - SCAR/UGA
Tier 2 - UF,MIZZ,UT
Tier 3 - VU, UK

VU losses everything offensively, in the secondary, and is transitioning to a 3-4 defense or I'd have them in Tier 2. I do think their RFR. QB McCrary is going to be somebody to watch out for going down the road though. It's just hard for me to see them not taking a step back with everything going on.

I'd agree with this.

With our luck, UF will come out firing the first 6 weeks of the season and then cool off again.

I can see where you're coming from with the other areas but this too me will be the hardest part to replace. The reigning SEC D player and Ealy will be missed.

I agree with the poster who had the tier system. I do think that UT can jump above UF if they can get their lines settled early in the year though.

Golden was not far behind them in most categories, ranking in the top 10 in the SEC in most of them. The coaches have been saying, beginning before last season started, that at the end of the day, Ray may be the best of the 4. Is the fastest upfield of any of them. Leading up to the draft, I read some scout saying much the same thing. But yes, will be sorely missed because the depth at the position drops of SIGNIFICANTLY after Golden and Ray.

Sometimes I think these guys read tRant to get their ideas on what to talk about. Matter is the Mizzou beat writer for the STL paper.

Back on topic, UGA catches a bit of a break in that their more difficult west game is at home against Auburn and their "easier" game is on the road at Arkansas.

Mizzou has to go on the road to A&M and gets Arky at home.

UF has a killer having to go to Bama and getting LSU at home.

SC and UT are probably somewhere in the middle. UT gets Bama at home and has to go on the road to Ole Miss. Don't know what to expect out of Bama. Obviously they're good, but how good?

SC opens up the season at home against A&M and then goes to Auburn. A&M could do the rest of us a huge favor and win that game to open the season.

We have a running joke on our board that the local sports radio shows read our board and make the same points that we do.
