ACC's turn to decide 8 vs. 9; implications for non-conference games vs. SEC?

Gee, will they work in time for golf at Amelia Island?

Love Jurich's quote, channeling his inner Spicoli:

Louisville AD Tom Jurich, who is just happy to be a member of the ACC, might be the swing vote.
“I really don’t care either way,” Jurich said. “It doesn’t matter to me. Eight, nine, seven, 10 -- I don’t care. If they want us to play nine plus the game with Kentucky, I’ll do that too.”

I saw earlier that they're thought to be leaning towards 8 games

I wouldn't mind each SEC team playing an ACC team each year. Some are fixed, but the others could rotate.

The biggest thing with the ACC is that Notre Dame is essentially a half-member for football, and plays 5 games a year against ACC teams. For teams with permanent SEC rivals, 9 ACC games in a year where you play Notre Dame and your rival non-conference means that you only really have control of one game that season.

GT is in favor of 9 games despite playing Georgia every year, though.

The whole "SEC exceptionalism" thing's days are probably numbered. Yeah, the SEC rules CFB. But when the rest of the conferences have all switched to 9 games, it's only a matter of time before a three or four year national title drought gets fingers a-pointin' and talkin' heads a-rantin'. Hell, it would probably only take a single year where the SEC is passed over for the play-off in favor of some other major conference team. The whole affair has the feel of inevitability to it, just like the expansion of other conferences and the addition of a title game had after the SEC started the trend.

Going the SEC route:

8 will carry the day

Notre Dame voting 9 means they may have to play 6 instead of 5

Clemson wants 8 to keep South Carolina
Louisville wants 8 to keep Kentucky
Florida State wants 8 to keep Florida
Georgia wants 8 to keep Georgia Tech
Miami wants 8 to keep Florida

That is 6 votes right there and can probably block any super majority vote needed on an issue like this.

They will stay at 8, if they think they can get the NCAA to waive the division requirement. Which would be great for the SEC too.

Such a stupid route. I hate that the Georgia AD is full of a bunch of babies.

Probably an advantage in terms of less risky scheduling for the ACC to play nine conference games.

I dont think its required at a certain amount of teams, its just possible to have them when you reach that level

I'm sure they explored all options before settling on Sam Houston St. and Rice
