There is a young lady down in Powder Springs, Georgia, comes from a very well-to-do family, (her father is a big fan or Dawn Staley and a well-known coach in his own right, Omar Cooper.

quote:

DeShield's mother is a UT grad, ran track there I think it was, but she is not pushing her daughter to UT and there appears to be a lot of love and respect for Staley from the Mom as well recently. A mutual athlete sort of thing. (Remember, DeShields never visited us so this is the first time they are all getting to know each other and evidently they really liked watching Staley catch the TD pass during the Spring Game broadcast.) So you've got DeSheild's Mom "Tisha," Cooper's Mom and Dad, and Staley all very friendly right now with Omar the key figure in all of this - the hub in the wheel so-to-speak although DeSheild's Dad, who was a major league player and is currently coaching AA ball somewhere, may fly in for the weekend IF he can get away for a few hours. He's friends with Omar.

And Te'a's big sister, Mia Cooper, was supposed to be part of the 2013 class to USC with Alaina Coates: Mia committed to USC, but from what I've read her grades ended up not being good enough to get her into USC. I could be wrong about that, because she never chose to go anywhere else afterwards that has lower entry standards, and reportedly is done playing organized basketball now.

But I imagine Coach Staley has a long-established relationship with the Cooper family...

A side issue that Vol fans are thinking has played a crucial role in all this is one TJ Rahming, a low to mid 3* WR prospect in the 2015 class out of McEachern. He's the personal squeeze of young Miss Cooper, and besides having CFB offers from a bunch of mostly mid-major programs, has one from UT.

Don't know how committable that offer is, but Vol fans say UT is his favorite, and the scenario about to play out is Cooper wants to go wherever Rahming goes, and DeShields wants to go wherever Cooper goes, so all 3 are destined to end up at UT. Makes sense to me, I guess.....

Cooper did not, is not, making the trip this weekend.

No further word on DeShields, except that she and her Mom may have already headed home because no one has seen them since this morning, but all indications are that everything went well.

Updated, yep, Dawn Staley had to leave early to get to the Under Armor weekend party ... guess there could have been issues had DeShields been invited.

Got some news on her today.

She did not leave early, Saturday, she and her Mom extended the tour in order to stick around and visit with some academics. She wants to major in Mass Communications if she comes here and really like the school and the people who gave her the grand tour. But Coach Staley came back from the UA weekend and they spent a lot of time together evidently, from what I am being told, and it went really well. Diamond and her mother did not leave until Monday and they both seemed to enjoy their visit and had a great time.

Her decision is supposed to be coming-down pretty soon between UT and USC. Maybe this week some time.

Actually Cooper tweeted to her sis Mia that she was in Columbia on the 18th:

Yep, she came the day after we thought DeShields had already gone home, before they decided to stay through Sunday and Monday. I should have added that.

DeShield's wasn't seen around the facilities after Saturday when Staley departed for the Under Armor weekend. But then her mom and her decided to stay to do the academic tour, and that gave Cooper time to get up there for Sunday's "event" with Coach Staley.

Cooper did her own separate tour of the facilities when her Mother and she arrived Sunday while DeShields was meeting with a couple of people from our School of Mass Communications.

Then they all hooked-up and the conference began.

ETA: I know why they decided to stay, and what they did together on Sunday when Cooper finally arrived, but I can't post it here. It's no biggie it's just that it might give my source away and I'd hate to do that.

Things really swung dramatically for us over the weekend, I hope it works out and that they both pull the trigger in our favor this week. Tennessee is a tough program to beat, I honestly don't think anyone has a real clue if we're leading but I think everyone feels good about it. Staley must have done a heckuva a job explaining the master plan to the girls and their parents.

If they do both commit, the big thing they both talked about being important to them was starting new, together, at a new school. So they would both be eligible to play together beginning the 2015-16 season. They both know several players already on the roster or already committed to us. DeShields four and Cooper three.
