GA is not surprising. UCF is to me

Yes, this was stolen from the OT. Wanna fight about it

This is based on number of applicants. UCF is centrally located, has no admissions standards, and is the backup school to UF and FSU. Not surprising.

This can't be right. OU is a much better school than OSU.

It could very well be. This is based on number of applicants

Same could be said for SC. I think Clemson is a better school than Scar but they get more applicants, likely with the IQ of Clowney

I don't believe for a second that Tulane gets more applicants than LSU or even ULL.

This is bullshite. Anyone who lives in SC knows USC is a cesspool. Even people who live in Columbia (like my brother) can't stand the place. It's boring as frick and for some reason the girls all seem kinda dumb.

College of Charleston is the place to go. Girls are drop dead gorgeous and the beach is right next door not to mention the amazing nightlife.

There are very few people who actually want to go to USC. Trust me on this

Not from LA residents, but they sure as hell get more applicants from the rest of the country. They get a lot from the New York Metro/Jersey area

It's not. The larger schools are going to get the most applicants. That's what this study is based on.

Those are a little bit different. In those states, those two schools are quite prestigious. They're going to get a lot of applicants, especially from out of state prospects.

ETA: South Carolina doesn't have a prestigious academic institution like those two states. Georgia has Emory, GT, and Georgia. When you combine a big SEC school with good academics and a great town like Athens, it's easy to see why we get more applicants. Plus GT is more specialized which is going to decrease its number of applicants.

I agree, but they are kinda dumb too. On one of my first trips to a night of partying in Charleston, a hot brunette yelled out her dorm windows at us, "Hey, are you guys Freshman"? There were about 5 of us all over 21 and wearing the infamous high and tight.

Oh, I get UGAg's draw - diverse offerings, college town, coeds, largest University - just those two I pointed out are very surprising to me. Tulane is about the size of Wake Forest.

Uh, no. USC is a far superior academic institution to CofC (the "college of knowledge"). Everyone knows Charleston is a great place to live, not everyone chooses which school to attend based on where the best nitelife is located.

Yeah, I guess 8k or so a year just all end up there b/c they couldn't get into CofC?

Clemson is a more highly ranked school, but the schools cater to different interests and career paths. Clemson is not so far ahead of USC that if you were admitted to both but preferred urban to rural life, you would cast that aside and enroll in Clemson regardless. Within the state there is little perception that Clemson is a better school, they're viewed on roughly equivalent footing from an objective viewer (although try finding anyone in SC objective a/b USC v Clemson). Really, only Furman enjoys that distinction, although I think Clemson's enrollment standards are creeping up on FU.

In reality, almost all state schools offer the same education. The admission's standards determine the quality of competition at a school, but after that everything is roughly the same. In graduate school, I found that the UGA, Clemson, UF, USC, UT, UNC, etc kids were all mostly on the same footing. It was the kids who went to private school (Furman, W&L, Richmond, Wake, Sewanee, etc) who were more disciplined and rigorously academic (likely owing to the very slim student:faculty ratio and the heavy workloads). And then, of course, your kids from the elite schools were very successful, whether public or private (Duke, Harvard, Penn, UVA).

Tulane is nearly twice as large as Wake Forest. With that said, I was surprised that they garner more applications than LSU.
